Aubrey Plaza reportedly had fun on set, pranking her castmates, while filming the second season of The White Lotus. According to Entertainment Weekly, Plaza went to great lengths to set up elaborate rouse in castmate Adam Dimurro’s dressing room.
Plaza constructed creepy occult-like symbols with reed diffusers reminiscent of ones from the iconic 1999 horror movie, The Blair Witch Project. To throw her co-stars off her trail, Plaza constructed the symbols in her own dressing room as well, played along, and pretended she was just as spooked as DiMurro was. Plaza continued her horror-movie-themed prank with cryptic notes and messages that she would slip under doors. Plaza committed to being upset by lamenting how freaked out she was to other co-stars, Haley Lu Richardson and Meghann Fahy.

The location where the cast shot the latest season of The White Lotus was The San Domenico Palace Hotel. The historic hotel was formerly a 14th-century convent that helped set the scene for the haunted antics. The cast and crew were in the Sicilian hotel for over five months, giving Plaza plenty of time to commit to her prank. DiMarco reportedly became more distressed over time and put his sleuthing skills into action. He eventually figured out the whodunit when he requested that security go through the surveillance tapes and saw that it was Plaza. Plaza denied it at first but eventually relented and admitted it was her.
The White Lotus has been renewed for a third season, but the location, shoot dates, and cast have yet to be confirmed.
