There are many reasons why some actors want to join the MCU. For Aubrey Plaza, she simply wanted to work with Kathryn Hahn, which is why she is now set to appear in Agatha: Coven of Chaos on Disney+. With the news being revealed last week that Plaza would be one of the new faces joining the WandaVision spin-off alongside returnees Hahn, Emma Caulfield Ford, and more, the project is looking even more attractive to some MCU fans. While appearing on In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast, the actress addressed her Marvel debut and how it was the chance of working with friend Hahn that drew her in. Plaza said:

With no character having yet been announced for Plaza, it is interesting that she uses the term of “going toe to toe” with Hahn, which could suggest that she will be the antagonist to Hahn’s Agatha Harkness in some way. More will come on that from Marvel, all in good time.

“I think working with Kathryn Hahn, she’s a friend of mine. I’ve known her for years, we’ve never really got—you know, we shared a couple moments on screen on Parks and Recreation years ago, ten years ago, but I’ve never gotten to work with her, really, and she’s I think she’s one of the most incredible actresses that’s working today. She’s a friend of mine, she speaks my language. So you know, to be able to get on screen with her and go toe to toe with her is like—that’s what’s driving me. You know, I think it’s cool that it’s Marvel and all that but I’m really just interested to work with Kathryn Hahn.”

Where Will Agatha: Coven of Chaos Sit in the MCU?

     Marvel Studios

Every Marvel story told within the MCU has a role to play in the greater narrative, even if it doesn’t seem like it at the time. Although there has been little revealed about where Agatha’s solo show will sit in the wider MCU, or even in relation to WandaVision, the inclusion of known MCU stars such as Ford, who played Dottie in the Elizabeth Olsen-led series, suggests that the series will take place after the events of Marvel’s inaugural Disney+ show.

However everything fits together, the popularity of Kathryn Hahn’s witch during her time on WandaVision will guarantee that Marvel Studios has another hit on their hands on Disney+ when the show arrives in the next couple of years. Filming is already set to start soon on the series, which will reportedly contain nine episodes. Although there has been no word on how long the episode runtimes will be, the show is expected to equal to the same length as the likes of WandaVision and She-Hulk. With plenty of rumors over whether Elizabeth Olsen will make her MCU return in the series, after her supposed demise in the finale of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – although no one believes that line – Agatha: Coven of Chaos is looking like a worthy addition to the Phase 5 line up.
