Aubrey Plaza made her mark in television when she starred as April Ludgate in NBC’s sitcom Parks and Recreation. It had the same stylistic setup as NBC’s The Office, which the network revamped from BBC’s hit sitcom of the same name. For those of you wondering who April Ludgate and/or Aubrey Plaza is, April, who is played by Plaza, was the Goth-girl intern in the Pawnee Department of Parks and Recreation, who was later hired as Ron Swanson’s assistant. It is safe to say that Plaza’s deadpan style of acting during April’s run gained her popularity in her unforgettable performance.

However, what other iconic roles has made Plaza’s resume in her career? The actress has starred in massive blockbuster hits like Mike and Dave Need Wedding Datesalongside Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, and Adam Devine, and Safety Not Guaranteed with Mark Duplass. Plaza has also gone on to produce and star in films like The Little Hours and Ingrid Goes West. Throughout her performances, fans of Plaza are able to see her wide range of acting chops. However, in all of her accolades, what are some of her best movies? Here are Plaza’s best movies since Parks and Recreation.

7 The Little Hours

     Universal Pictures

Three medieval nuns lead a simple life within the convent. Alessandra, Fernanda, and Ginervra spend their days mocking Catholicism, spying on one another, or harassing the estate’s day laborer. A young man named Massetto is determined to see if the rumors are true regarding the convent — that a bunch of horny nuns run the place. The Little Hours is based on the book The Decameron by Giovanni Boccacci and directed by Jeff Baena. Though the plot of the movie is complete lunacy, Plaza kills her part as tween queen bee of the convent. Plaza knocks this roll out of the park as she rolls her eyes at the most inconvenient tasks like laundry duty while yelling “Perverts!” at old men. The stellar cast also includes Alison Brie, John C. Reilly, and Dave Franco. The only thing more impressive than the cast is the fact that they were only given an outline for the film. Everything else was improvised (via LA Times).

6 Monsters University

     Disney / Pixar

Class is back in session as Plaza heads back to school in Monsters University. Mike and Sully decide to head to university to learn how to be scarier in Pixar’s latest film. Plaza plays Greek Council president Claire Wheeler, a gothic monster with purple hair, a third eye, and alternative personality. Claire plays that she doesn’t care about scaring people, but at Monster’s University, if you want to win the scare games, you better make sure you’re the scariest monster out there. A sequel movie can be hit or miss as audiences love seeing their favorite characters return to the big screen while also trying to live up to the hype of the first film. Seeing Mike and Sully return and this time to college is just the kind of entertainment audiences are looking for. Plaza plays the monster Claire who has a don’t care attitude while secretly loving the scare games as she messes with her contestants.

5 Happiest Season

     TriStar Pictures

‘Tis the season for holiday movies! Happiest Season stars Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis in this Hulu holiday rom-com. The holidays can be tough, but they are even tougher when you bring that special someone home to meet the family for the first time — especially when they don’t even know you’re gay. The story unfolds that Harper (played by Davis) has never told her super-conservative parents that she is a lesbian and in a committed relationship with Abby (played by Stewart). Along the way, Abby meets Riley (played by Plaza), who is the ex-girlfriend of Harper. Fans of the movie loved Plaza’s performance and hoped it would end with Abby and Riley together. Ultimately, Abby decided to go back to Harper even though the chemistry between her and Riley was undeniable. Plaza plays a character that we don’t see too often, but the softer side of her acting is something audiences want to see more of.

4 Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is a movie based on a beloved comic book series by Bryan Lee O’Malley. The core of the movie is about dating while using video games, rock n’ roll, and superheroes to explain love and relationships. This film has a star-studded cast with actors like Michael Cera, Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Brandon Routh, and Mae Whitman. Plaza plays Julie Powers, who tends to have many expletive rants gearing towards Scott (played by Cera), and is one of the running gags of the movie. While filming Scott Pilgrim, Plaza was given a secret fact of her character from the creator himself, which was that she had a crush on Scott in college. However, her crush was never reciprocated. Plaza really played into this on-screen making her performance something the fandom would never forget.

3 Ingrid Goes West

     Neon

Ingrid Goes West is a dark comedy that tells the tale of Ingrid who seems to be mentally unstable and decides to head west to befriend social media influencer Taylor Sloane (played by Elizabeth Olsen). Ingrid has succumbed to her psychosis after her mother passes away which leads her to move west to copy the lavish lifestyle of Taylor. While trying to emulate Taylor’s sophisticated, fashionable, and perfect marriage, Ingrid’s behavior becomes slightly unsettling and dangerous. Ingrid Goes West is a dark take on how commercialism and narcissism have overtaken culture through social media. Plaza’s performance is funny at first look, but when you dive deeper into the message of the film, you see the sad reflection that social media has on mental illness. Plaza really plays into the unstable aspect of Ingrid and allows the audience to see the effects of not dealing with depression.

2 Black Bear

     Momentum Pictures

The suspenseful drama Black Bear is a darker film than audiences are used to seeing Plaza in. An expecting couple is surprised by an out of town guest, Allison (played by Plaza). Allison is a filmmaker who seems to be struggling from writer’s block and decides to hide in the woods to find herself. The expecting couple soon finds themselves in a twisted love triangle that forces each character to face what they are truly afraid of. Plaza’s performance may be one of her best roles yet as she portrays an unsettling artist who may hurt the lives of complete strangers for the sake of her craft.

1 Safety Not Guaranteed

     FilmDistrict

Safety Not Guaranteed follows a college grad student, Darius Britt (played by Plaza), interning at a Seattle magazine. Darius decides to respond to a classified ad requesting a companion for time travel. She and her co-workers Jeff (played by Jake Johnson) and Arnau (played by Karan Soni) set out to meet with Kenneth Calloway (played by Mark Duplass) who swears that he has built a time machine. This low-budget indie film creates the argument of what happens when someone decides to change their past, prevent their future, and alter their present timeline. Throughout the film, Jeff decides that this power isn’t something he wants to be part of anymore. Plaza’s performance as Darius shows an insecure character who is ultimately flawed and someone that an audience member can relate to.
