Avatar: The Last Airbender is a series beloved by many, both kids and adults. There has yet to be a series like it to make as huge an impact across multiple generations. Its animation style was top-tier even for the time, and its handling of mature themes, such as war, loss, and death, all while still being suitable for children, made it one of the most well-written shows on television in the past two decades. It made sense when Nickelodeon created a sequel series to continue the Avatar cycle with The Legend of Korra.
The Avatar cycle will continue now that a new Avatar animated series has been announced (per CBR). This announcement came with the news that the Avatar animated universe will be getting significantly larger in the coming years because a total of six new properties are slated. They include three movies and three new series that will be exclusive to Paramount+. Not much has been revealed about these projects so far, but there are a lot of possibilities. Here are every upcoming animated releases fans can expect to premiere within the next five years.

Earth Avatar Series
As first announced on Avatar News, there will be a new Avatar series coming in 2025. The new show is said to take place approximately 100 years after Korra, which would be set in the Avatar universe equivalent of modern-day and will focus on an Earth Avatar’s journey in accordance with the Avatar cycle. Along with this new series, there is also said to be a new movie based on this new figure that will premiere in theaters not long after. However, as this information was only just recently announced, fans should take it with a grain of salt. Nothing is set in stone, so plans could change. Similarly to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, things could get switched around to better fit the larger, planned narrative. The figure in the image above might not even be the look of the Avatar, as the image was made strictly for promotional purposes. More news will likely follow in the coming months.

Adult Aang Gang Movie

Not far behind the new Avatar series will be a sequel film to the show that started it all. This movie will follow Avatar Aang and his group of friends as adults. Avatar News noted that it is no coincidence that this film and the new series are coming out so close to each other as it’s part of a bigger plan. There are no details as to what that plan may be, though. It could be that the adventure that occurs in this movie will somehow connect to the new series. On the other hand, it could follow a separate journey. There are multiple comic stories following The Last Airbender finale that continue their stories. Perhaps one of them will be re-imagined for the big screen? Or perhaps it will follow more of the struggles of putting the world back into balance after the 100-year war? Whatever the story may be, the new Avatar movie is set for October 10, 2025 release date.
Zuko Movie

Anticipated to hit theaters on October 9, 2026, is a standalone film focusing on Zuko. Reports so far have only confirmed the 2026 release date, so there is no information as to whether or not it will connect to the Aang gang film or when it will take place. However, it is presumed that it will be sometime following the 100-Year War. Based on the slate presented via Avatar News, Avatar Studios is planning to release a new movie and show every year up until 2027. No cast or crew has been confirmed for this new film yet, although it is believed that voice actor Dante Basco will reprise his role as the iconic character. As stated regarding the adult Team Avatar film, there are also separate comic stories centered on Zuko that could be adapted as well, such as one following his search for his mother and his struggles in managing the Fire Nation following the war. However, the studio could decide to go with a completely original story instead.
Two Spinoff Series

Last up on Avatar Studio’s release slate are two un-named spinoff series set to premiere in 2026 and 2027, respectively. There is no information available about either of these properties. They could be about anything in the expanded Avatar universe. Either of these shows can follow newly formed original stories, but fans have been desiring an adaptation of The Shadow of Kyoshi and The Rise of Kyoshi novels for a long time. Both cover the journeys of Avatar Kyoshi, first introduced in Avatar: The Last Airbender - Book 2: Earth. Kyoshi holds similar traits of an anti-hero and was willing to resort to more drastic means to maintain peace. However, other Avatars have been introduced and can be explored. The Dawn of Yangchen is a novel released last year and chronicles the adventures of the previous Air-bending Avatar before Aang. Yangchen was a complex individual herself who faced different struggles than has been seen on TV, and her story dives deeper into unexplored aspects of Avatar lore. Hers would be a television adaptation fans would also rejoice to see. Again, take this information with a grain of salt. Just because there are two shows on the calendar further on does not mean plans won’t change.
