It is official. Avatar, the movie franchise, which has captivated audiences since its first theatrical release in 2009, has made history again with its second feature film. Avatar: The Way of Water hit movie theaters worldwide on Dec. 16, 2022. Since then, it has been projected to reach 1.3 billion sales by New Year’s Day, according to a recent report from Forbes. Avatar: The Way of Water is also one of the most talked about films of 2022 and has accumulated enough sales to surpass every other movie that came out in the same year.
If you don’t yet know or need a reminder: due to a one-year time jump in the plot, Avatar: The Way of Water is set 14–15 years after the previous movie’s events, with most of the events taking place in the year 2170. It chronicles the adventures of Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their five offspring. The Sully family is forced to flee to the Metkayina clan’s homeland in the Pandoran oceans after a well-known menace reappears to wreak havoc in their lives. What follows is one of the most technically astounding films ever to be released.

Avatar: What We Can Expect to See in Part 3
20th Century Studios
After the massive success of Avatar one and two, it’s little surprise that audiences are craving its inevitable part 3. The film’s director James Cameron has recently dropped a few hints to several media outlets about what audiences can expect to see in the next installment, which is slated to premiere sometime in the next few years. For one, a new subgroup known as the Ash people will be introduced. In addition to that, all new inventions and concepts will be created and utilized in the fantastical world of Pandora.
Different worlds are also expected to be shown with other yet-to-be-mentioned tribes. Moviegoers can also expect to see a darker side to the Na’vi people, with Cameron stating that he wants to show the Na’vi people portrayed in a drastically different way than audiences are used to seeing them. Finally, the plot will consist of tribes (whether by choice or through force) adapting to an entirely new environment. Avatar: The Way of Water is available in theaters now.
