Exclusive artwork from Warner Bros. Discovery shows new looks at Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam, Leslie Grace’s Batgirl, Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle, Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, and more in animated form. An exclusive convention bag featuring artwork drawn by DC Chief Creative Officer and Publisher Jim Lee brings the vast array of iconic DC superheroes to the fore and offers an idea of what these characters will look like when they leap into live action.

The image should have DC and comic book movie fans hugely excited for San Diego Comic-Con, which is now just a few weeks away. While it is not yet known exactly what will be shown at the event, the smart money would be on new looks at several upcoming projects including Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Batgirl, Blue Beetle, The Flash, and more.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
In the Heights actress Leslie Grace will pick up the mantle of Batgirl, starring as Barbara Gordon in the upcoming HBO Max movie. A vigilante stalking the streets of Gotham City and the daughter of police commissioner James Gordon, Batgirl will tell the origin of the character and her evolution as a vigilante with Grace saying that “[t]here’s not a lot of nuances in her thinking at the beginning of the story,” but that the character would “discover a lot about parts of herself” throughout the movie.
Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah from a screenplay by Christina Hodson, Batgirl stars Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon alongside J. K. Simmons, Brendan Fraser, Jacob Scipio, and Ivory Aquino, with Michael Keaton set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne.
Blue Beetle Will Receive a Theatrical Release
Warner Bros. Pictures
Alongside Batgirl, the artwork gives us another look at Blue Beetle, with the image once again revealing how comic accurate the super-suit will be when it hits the big screen. Blue Beetle will focus on Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, who is in fact the third person to take up the Blue Beetle mantle. Much like the Blue Beetles before him, Reyes gains his powers after discovering a “sacred scarab,” which attaches to his back and morphs into the black and blue battle suit allowing him to fight both street-level crimes and embark on loftier missions in space.
Directed by Angel Manuel Soto from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, Blue Beetle stars Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Trujillo, and Susan Sarandon alongside Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes. The project was initially set for an exclusive release on HBO Max, much like Batgirl, but has since been given a theatrical release. Blue Beetle is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 18, 2023.
DC fans have a lot to look forward to aside from Batgirl and Blue Beetle. Jason Momoa’s Aquaman will soon return in the upcoming sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom; Zachary Levi will also make a superhero comeback in Shazam! Fury of the Gods; Dwayne Johnson will finally make his DC debut as Black Adam; and director Andy Muschietti will soon explore the DC multiverse in The Flash.
San Diego Comic-Con begins on July 20, 2022.
