Warner Bros. handling of their DCEU movies seems to have taken another strange and almost unbelievable twist as it has been reported from multiples sources that Batgirl has been canceled and will not be released in any form. Despite the $80 million movie being complete, it has been suggested that the test screenings of the movie were so bad that a decision has been made to completely abandon the project. This comes just a few days after Brendan Fraser was seen discussing his upcoming role as Firefly at GalaxyCon in Raleigh, North Carolina, making it seem a decision that has literally just been made or, as many fans are still vainly hoping, there has been some very crossed wires.

Although there is yet to be an official confirmation from Warner Bros., it seems that there are very few who still doubt the information as it has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that one of the biggest issues with the movie was the budget, which didn’t deliver the kind of big theatrical blockbuster the new company strategy is aiming for, and they seemingly don’t want to put out that kind of thing direct to streaming either.

The final decision on the movies fate seems to have come down to new Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav essentially taking apart all plans that were in place for DC movies to ever be direct to streaming releases. Batgirl and Blue Beetle were both originally down to head to HBO Max before Blue Beetle was given a theatrical release, and it was also reported that Batgirl would also be a release in cinemas, but only in the U.K. Now it seems that even that isn’t enough to allow the film to go ahead and be released.

Batgirl Always Seemed Out Of Place In The DCEU

Although many fans were looking forward to Leslie Grace taking on the role of Batgirl, the movie also involving J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon from Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and Michael Keaton as Batman left everyone scratching their heads as to exactly how the movie fit into the DCEU. This is something that even directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah didn’t seem to really be answer either, as they recently told The Direct. They said:

Additional to Batgirl, it has been reported that the “cost-saving exercise” has also seen the cancellation of Scoob! Holiday Haunt, a follow up to recent Scooby-Doo reboot, Scoob! While there is still a lot of information to come on this matter, for now, it looks like both of these movies are now considered scrapped.

“Well you know, we’d sort of give the same answer, because we would also ask, ‘Oh, you have J.K. Simmons from the Snyderverse and we got Michael Keaton from the Burton-verse. What’s the situation there?’ And they would say, ‘Don’t worry about it. We got a plan.’ They never really explained that aspect to us, but I guess you’re gonna have to see the other movies to understand what happens, why the reason is that we ended up in sort of a spaghetti of Multiverses in that aspect. It’s gonna be a delicious spaghetti, I’m sure of that.”
