Batgirl will feature fan favorite Batman actor Michael Keaton reprising his role as the caped crusader. We know that he will also be reprising the role in The Flash to be further established into the DCEU, in line with the rumors that he will essentially serve as the canon’s Nick Fury with appearances in multiple films. Previously, Keaton had shared an image teasing his return from the Batgirl set, showcasing his silhouette on the ground.

Keaton has been thrilled to return to the Batman role. He has spoken about how he had always thought about doing another movie after wrapping up his run with Tim Burton’s films after Batman and Batman Returns. Now that he’s back in the Batsuit, Keaton appears to be here to say with no less than two films already lined up.

“When it came around again first of all I was getting curious about it,” Keaton has said of his return. “I thought, ‘Boy, what would that be like?’ And then, coincidentally, there were murmurs, and I got a call from Warner Bros. They wanted to talk to me about something and there was hints of Batman. It has to be good. There’s no reason to do it if it’s not good. It’s not gonna really change anything. And I just jumped in and had fun. And why would you not? You know, I mean, director Andy Muschietti is fantastic, and he’s really creative. I don’t know. It’s fun.”
Batgirl is written by The Flash and Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson. It is directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) and stars Leslie Grace, J.K. Simmons, Michael Keaton, and Ivory Aquino. Brendan Fraser will also play the film’s villain, Firefly. Based on on the comic books by DC, the film will follow the commissioner’s daughter suiting up to fight crime in Gotham City as the superhero Batgirl.
Batgirl is expected to start streaming on HBO Max sometime in 2022 but does not yet have an official premiere date.
