Pop culture’s favorite buttmunches are back on the small screen with an all-new revival, thanks to Paramount+. Earlier this summer, the streaming platform debuted Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, the second feature film featuring the Mike Judge-created dimwits. They’re also getting a revival series on Paramount+ with all-new episodes, and as revealed in a new trailer, which you can watch below, the series will premiere on Aug. 4, 2022.

Mike Judge is back to voice Beavis and Butt-Head as well as other characters in Highland, Texas. The new series, dubbed Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head, reveals some of the hijinks the two get themselves into, which, of course, includes plenty of destruction. Beavis also gets to celebrate the sight of his favorite thing in the universe: fire. The art style has also not changed very much with the two titular characters looking mostly the same as they did in the 1990s. The official logline for the Beavis and Butt-Head revival reads:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“The iconic animated duo of Beavis and Butt-Head are back and dumber than ever! The ’90s pop-culture phenomenons return, voiced by creator Mike Judge, to confound common sense, torment each other, and showcase some of the dumbest comedy imaginable.”

Mike Judge Still Has Fun Voicing Beavis and Butt-Head

Beavis and Butt-Head originally aired on MTV from 1993 to 1997. It was brought back for one season in 2011. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Judge explained how there had been attempts every few years since to bring the series back, but it had never worked out until a deal was reached just prior to the pandemic. The new film and series were then developed remotely.

Judge also admitted that one of the biggest reasons he returned was that he missed voicing the two titular characters. He had performed voiceover work for a promotional spot and it had him feeling nostalgic for Beavis and Butt-Head. For Judge, he was simply having way too much fun doing the voices again, and with Paramount asking for more Beavis and Butt-Head, the animator believed that now would be the perfect time to bring them back.

“It’s really fun to do," he said. “I hadn’t done it in so long. It’s not like I sit around and do the voices in my spare time or anything but the band Portugal. The Man asked me to do an intro thing for them at Coachella. We used a song or two of theirs for Silicon Valley and so I did it and thought it sounded like Beavis and Butt-Head… Paramount wanted to do it so I thought why not. It has been a long time. There are people working on the [new] show that weren’t born when it first started.”

Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head will debut exclusively on Paramount+ on Aug. 4, 2022. Classic episodes are currently streaming along with both feature films, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America and Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe.
