Sir Ben Kingsley first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe nearly a decade ago when he appeared as the Mandarin/Trevor Slattery in Iron Man 3 opposite Robert Downey Jr. His character is still prominent within the connected universe, even if he only has one additional appearance thus far. Kingsley reprised his role in 2021 in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, once again offering a comedic angle on his character that wasn’t present until the second half of the third Iron Man film.

Earlier last month, reports confirmed Kingsley’s involvement in another Marvel project, Wonder Man. The titular character will star in a new Disney+ series, with rumors hinting toward a focus on the Hollywood entertainment industry and Simon Williams, A.K.A Wonder Man, as he navigates being an actor, stunt performer, and massive celebrity. But, of course, we must wait and see what Wonder Man turns out to be, as the project is still early in development. However, Ben Kingsley tells Collider he is excited to jump back into the MCU, although he jokes he hasn’t told his “Trev” counterpart yet.

Kingsley better break the news to his Trevor Slattery character, as the development of Wonder Man could be starting anytime now.

“Well I haven’t actually broken the news to Trev[or Slattery] that he is about to embark on his third incarnation. But if I can find him in some pub in Liverpool I shall tell him, gently and quietly in a corner, ‘Trev we’re on.’ And I think you’ll be delighted.”

Ben Kingsley Calls Trevor Slattery a ‘Pure’ Character

Trevor Slattery has become a fan-favorite character since his debut in Iron Man 3, so it’s no wonder he was brought back for the upcoming Wonder Man series. During his interview, Kingsley is asked why so many people adore Slattery within the MCU, and the actor believes a significant reason is the pureness of his character.

Kingsley says, “Well, let me speculate on why. I think there is something again like Dali; there is something of the child in Trev, and there is something pure in Trev.” He continues, saying that resonates with audiences. “Perhaps that touches the unconscious in the audience. I don’t really know; that’s probably a ludicrous answer.”

Kingsley has another project releasing before Wonder Man even begins filming. Dalíland recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where Kingsley plays Salvador Dalí. The film focuses on a young gallery assistant as they go on a wild adventure behind the scenes, helping the aging genius Salvador Dalí prepare for a big show in New York. A wider release date for the film has yet to be scheduled. However, fans can look forward to more Trevor Slattery when Wonder Man arrives on Disney+, likely debuting sometime in 2024.
