9 Christine

     Great Point Media

In the 2016 film Christine, Hall plays a young journalist in the 1970s. Of course, when you get a career-driven woman during a time like this, ambition will be met with resistance. This drama film showcases Hall’s ability to show the ups and downs of making it in the industry as well as the emotional toll that could have on a person.

8 Professor Marston and The Wonder Women

     Boxspring Entertainment

Professor Marston and The Wonder Woman is not the Wonder Woman origin story you would expect. The drama came out in 2017 and featured psychologist/inventor Dr. William Moulton Marston, his wife Elizabeth, played by Hall, and their lover Olive Byrne, played by Bella Heathcote. The two women are muses for Dr. Marston, and, as outlined by The Verge, they are his inspiration and motivations behind creating the beloved DC superhero Wonder Woman. This breathtaking movie is a must-watch if you want to get a good taste of Hall’s work.

7 The Prestige

     Touchstone Pictures

5 Permission

     Ball & Chain Productions

Hall can just do it all at this point. We have seen her range in horror, thriller, drama, and even action. Now, it’s time for us to recognize her talents in the romance genre. Permission follows Anna (Hall) and Will (Dan Stevens) who are going strong in an impressive 10-year relationship where they were each other’s “first” for everything. With both of them pretty much ready to take things to the next level, they come to an agreement to try opening up their relationship before making any lifelong commitments.

4 The Gift

     STX Entertainment

If you were into movies in 2015, you probably remember when The Gift came out. Well, The Gift is a very stripped-down, ominous, and intimate psychological thriller that will have you at the edge of your seat. Robyn, played by Hall, and Simon, played by Jason Bateman, become acquainted with Gordo, played by Joel Edgerton. Soon enough, secrets unfold about his past with Simon and all hell breaks loose.

3 Vicky Cristina Barcelona

2 The Night House

     Anton

The Night House follows Hall as the leading character Beth, who is left all alone in her home after her husband suffers a sudden and unexpected death. You can probably already sense the elements of this that are building towards a terrifying horror thriller. Well, soon enough, Beth begins to hear the voices of the spirits inhabiting her home that only come out when the sun goes down. Hall perfectly portrays the fear and separation needed for the character and this one is definitely one of her best performances.
