7 Billionaire Boys Club

     Elevated Films

Mixed reviews from critics did not prevent Taron Egerton from standing out as his role Dean Karny in the 2018 film, Billionaire Boys Club. Based on a true story from the 1980s, the film centers around a group of wealthy boys in LA who established a “get rich quick” scam that turns deadly. Starring alongside West Side Story’s Ansel Elgort and House of Cards’ Kevin Spacey, Egerton’s portrayal of Dean, a tennis pro and the main antagonist, held its own against these bigger stars.

     Summit Entertainment

Over the years, there have been many adaptations of the infamous character of Robin Hood. In the 2018 action-adventure Robin Hood, Taron Egerton takes on the adaptation as Robin of Loxley. His character is drafted by the corrupt sheriff, played by Ben Mendelsohn, to become a crusader so that he can claim his land. After four years, Robin returns home to find all he had is gone. With the help of John, played by Jamie Foxx, the two mount a revolt against the corrupt English crown. Although this film also received mixed reviews, the action sequences and special effects are worth noting.

5 Kingsman: The Golden Circle

     20th Century Fox

In the second film in the Kingsman franchise, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, new allies ban together after Kingman’s headquarters is blown up. The Kingsman pair with the Statesman from Kentucky, who has a very different way of doing things. The unlikely group forms together to create the Golden Circle and tries to stop a global threat. Returning to his role as Eggsy, Taron Egerton builds on his fantastic first performance with a new character arc. The films funny quips and action sequences aren’t bad to watch, either.

4 Sing

     Universal Pictures

As good as his acting is, Taron Egerton is also a great singer. In the 2016 family-friendly film Sing, we get our first taste of his singing ability. To save his father’s dying theater, a showman (Matthew McConaughey) hosts a singing competition. After a typo changes the grand prize from $1,000 to $100,000, the competition attracts a lot of talent, and all their lives will never be the same. The success of the first film spawned a sequel Sing 2, which was released in 2021. Egerton joins a star-studded cast including Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Matthew McConaughey, and Seth McFarlane.

3 Eddie the Eagle

Throughout his career, Taron Egerton has starred in a few biopics, including the 2015 film Eddie the Eagle, where he played Eddie Edwards. Inspired by true events, the Olympics-related film follows the tenacious British underdog ski jumper at the 1988 Winter Games. With the help of his coach, played by Hugh Jackman, Eddie charms the hearts of sports fans around the world with his historic showing at the Calgary Olympics. This character is lovable and inhibits a “never say no” attitude, which Egerton expertly displays throughout the entirety of the film.

2 Rocketman

     New Republic Pictures

In perhaps his most decorated performance, Taron Egerton takes on the role of Elton John in the 2019 biopic, Rocketman. In this bright, colorful, and fun biopic that follows the great musician’s life, viewers get to see a new side of Egerton. While we experienced first-hand his singing ability in Sing, Egerton blows this performance out the water as he does his own singing as the titular character. The film went on to win many awards including a Golden Globe for Egerton for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.

1 Kingsman: The Secret Service

Arguably his most famous role comes from the first time he appeared in the Kingsman franchise as Eggsy. The first film in the franchise, Kingsman: The Secret Service, pulls a rough kid, Eggsy, off the street and transforms him into a sophisticated, intellectual spy. Through a series of tests, Eggsy has to prove his worth to the agency and earn a title as a Kingsman. Working under Collin Firth’s character, Harry Hart, Eggsy learns more about his father, who was a Kingsman with Harry, and where he belongs in the world. This film certainly helped spark the young actor’s career back in 2014 by showing his comedic and adventurous side. To cap off his biggest performance, Egerton was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Actor in the film.
