Modern TV sitcoms have done an excellent job over the years of providing memorable weddings for their beloved characters. From comedies like The Office to dramas like One Tree Hill, having a wedding between the main characters is almost a given. For the most part, on the day of the wedding, there is some catastrophe that either or both the bride and groom must overcome before they even get to the altar. Whether that is a tux locked in a closed dry cleaner or a rainstorm forcing a change in plans, some of our favorite wedding episodes have come amidst the chaos.

According to a piece on TV Tropes, TV shows include a wedding episode for a number of reasons, the most popular being it’s a great excuse to boost ratings. It also is a great reason for the cast to dress up, move to new scenery, or for a season finale. Regardless of the reason, it’s very rare for long-running shows not to include at least one wedding between the characters. While we know this is not an extensive list, we had to narrow it down to a top twelve. Here’s our take on the best TV wedding episodes of all time, ranked.

11 Red Wedding — Game of Thrones

     HBO

Arguably one of the most shocking scenes in Game of Thrones history was the “Red Wedding,” which is more of a murder scene than a wedding. Rob Stark married Talisa despite having a marriage pact in place with House Frey. Rob and his bride attend the wedding of Edmund Tully who has taken Rob’s place in the marriage pact. All seems well until it is revealed that Walder Frey has ordered a massacre of Rob and his family.

10 Jake and Amy — Brooklyn Nine-Nine

In the season five finale of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Jake and Amy get married. Their day starts off with the ring bearer coming down with the chickenpox, the cake missing, and Amy’s veil being dirty. It seems Jake has an answer to all of these until a bomb threat at their venue threatens to stop the wedding. As if it couldn’t get worse, Amy’s ex-boyfriend comes as part of the bomb squad and intentionally searches the property slowly to further delay the wedding. Luckily, the wedding goes through successfully.

9 Cam and Mitch — Modern Family

     ABC

The wedding of Cam and Mitch in Modern Family was long-awaited for fans. In season five, during a two-part episode, the beloved pair finally marry. True to the show’s nature, the wedding does not go down without a few dramatic moments. From wildfires threatening to burn down their venue to their officiant going into labor and even a lost tuxedo, the pair were up against their fair share of crazy moments. Luckily, the two were able to get their tux, find a new venue, and find a new officiant making their wedding day worth it.

8 Lily and Marshall – How I Met Your Mother

     CBS

For many fans of the hit sitcom, How I Met Your Mother, the wedding of Lily and Marshall was a highlight moment in the show. Although it was a happy ending for the couple, the wedding also had its setbacks leading up to the kiss and “I do.” It starts off with Lily’s ex showing up at the request of her family to try and win her back. On top of that, the flowers won’t be ready on time, the veil is dirty, the harp player goes into labor, and Lily can’t find her “property of Marshall” underwear — oh, and Marshall accidentally shaves off part of his hair. Thankfully, Ted comes up with a plan that allows the bride and groom to have the ceremony they want, complete with a hat to cover the hair mishap.

7 Becky and Jesse – Full House

In a two-part episode in season four of Full House, Becky and Jesse get married, but only after Becky bails Jesse out of jail. Jesse is picked up by the sheriff after accidentally parachuting into a tree in Tomato Country. He finds himself in jail and late for his own wedding. Becky rushes over to the jail, in her wedding dress, scolds him for skydiving on their wedding day, and gets him released. Unfortunately, their bad luck doesn’t stop there. Becky’s car is towed and the two hitchhike to the chapel on a gospel choir’s bus. Due to the delayed wedding start, they lose their venue and have to move the reception to the Tanner house. Despite the bad luck, the pair is all smiles as they ride off on Jesse’s motorcycle at the end of the night.

6 Haley and Nathan – One Tree Hill

     Tollin/Robbins Productions

Haley and Nathan, aka Naley, are relationship goals for many fans of One Tree Hill. The two married quickly in high school in a private ceremony with little family and no friends invited. A little while later, the two get to have their big wedding day. The vow renewal was Nathan’s idea and came shortly after Haley and Nathan finally reconciled after the whole Chris Keller ordeal. The wedding day wasn’t quite as disastrous as the rest on this list, but it did include a drunk friend, a pregnancy test, and a car accident that had Nathan jumping off a bridge in rescue.

5 Monica and Chandler – Friends

In the season seven finale of Friends, Monica and Chandler get married. Throughout the two-part episode, Chandler seems to have run away, Joey almost misses the wedding, and a positive pregnancy test shows up in Monica’s bathroom. After a bit of struggling for the gang, everything ends up working out and the beloved pair get married by Joey who is still in his World War costume from filming earlier that day. It turns out Monica wasn’t pregnant and that it’s Rachel who is — even though you don’t find this out until the next season.

4 Leslie and Ben – Parks and Recreation

If anyone can get married with only two hours to plan, it’s Parks and Rec couple Leslie and Ben, who did just that in season five. The couple enlists their coworkers and divvies out the tasks. Luckily, the pair was already planning on getting married, so they had a handle on bigger things like the marriage license. Not so luckily, the dress isn’t ready, they can’t find wedding rings, and the gala which is going on during this time is crashed by Councilman Jeremy Jamm who is mad at Leslie for stealing his lot. Jamm then crashes the wedding and all seems over for the pair until Leslie is tricked into a second attempt at City Hall.

3 Cory and Topanga – Boy Meets World

As one of the 90s favorite couples, Cory and Topanga, it’s only fitting their wedding makes this list. The beloved couple in Boy Meets World has to put up with a few mishaps on their wedding day including a jealous Shawn and the Peterman wedding. Eric, being Eric, posed as a Peterman to allow for Cory and Topanga’s wedding to get moved up. The day goes off beautifully despite the few interruptions.

2 Patrick and David — Schitt’s Creek

     ITV Studios Global Entertainment

Schitt’s Creek’s Patrick and David and arguably today’s favorite LGBTQ+ couple. The pair’s relationships had their ups-and-downs, but all was made worth it when fans got to see the pair marry in the final season. The originally outdoor wedding was moved indoors thanks to the rain, Alexis wore a white gown, insisting it looked nothing like a wedding gown, and Moira took over as the officiant and dawned the full priest costume. Even with these hiccups, the pair wed making every fan happy the wedding came to be.

1 Pam and Jim – The Office

     NBCUniversal Television Distribution

In season six, Jim and Pam from The Office get married in a two-part episode. The wedding takes place at Niagara Falls and includes a funny dance number that inspired many real-life weddings. Unfortunately, before the wedding, Jim accidentally announces to everyone that Pam is pregnant, causing Pam’s grandma to not want to attend the wedding. The couple ends up getting married by a ship boat captain where it’s just the two of them, giving them the wedding they truly wanted, though they still marry in the church with friends and family to witness.
