While Better Call Saul came up short at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this week, it’s managed to get another special award elsewhere. Rotten Tomatoes, a website that aggregates reviews from professional critics to compile critical scores for movies and TV shows, has named Better Call Saul as the drama series that was better reviewed than any other for all of last year. This accomplishment earned the Breaking Bad spinoff the Golden Tomato Award for Best-Reviewed Drama TV Series of 2022.
“Yeah! Thank you Rotten Tomatoes & all reviewers!” actor Patrick Fabian, who appeared in all six seasons of the show as Howard Hamlin, said in response to the news.

As noted by Rotten Tomatoes, the list was compiled going by each show’s Tomatometer scores as of Dec. 31, 2022. This includes adjuments tot he formula to compensate for “variation in the number of reviews when comparing movies or TV shows.” In order, the shows following Better Call Saul that make up the rest of the top 10 are Bad Sisters, Cobra Kai, Peaky Blinders, The Serpent Queen, Black Bird, Pachinko, A League of Their Own, The Responder, and Industry.
Annoucing Better Call Saul’s win, Rotten Tomatoes notes, “It took six seasons for Jimmy McGill to complete his transformation into Saul Goodman — a full season longer than it took for us to witness Walter White’s rise and fall — but the end result was a critical hit. Anchored by fantastic performances from Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn, the sixth season of Better Call Saul garnered near-universal praise to beat the likes of Cobra Kai, Peaky Blinders, Black Bird, and Pachinkko, among others.”
Better Call Saul Gets Snubbed Often

Some fans of the series cannot understand why Better Call Saul has been nominated for 46 Primetime Emmy Awards without a single win. It’s also been up for six Golden Globes, up for Best Drama Series along with acting noms for Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks at this year’s event. When it came up short once again, many fans were declaring that the series was “robbed.” But even without Emmys or Golden Globes, nothing has taken away from the quality of the program, as made clear by Better Call Saul garnering the best reviews at Rotten Tomatoes.
Meanwhile, Better Call Saul will have one last shot for Emmy gold. Its back half of the sixth and final season will be eligible for this year’s Emmys, so perhaps with the Golden Tomato Award coming in to kick off the year, the show will finally nab an Emmy with its very last chance. Until then, fans can see if the series will win at the upcoming SAG Awards where is’s earned additional nominations.
