After debuting in 2015, the Breaking Bad spinoff series Better Call Saul ended its six-season run earlier this year. The story was wrapped up with the series premiere episode, dubbed “Saul Gone,” which finally revealed what ultimately becomes of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) after the events of Breaking Bad. Also revealed was the ultimate fate of Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), Jimmy’s other half who’d been a loyal companion to the titular attorney since the first season.
In the newest issue of Empire Magazine (via Slash Film), Odenkirk commented on the series finale. He admits that he was expecting the finale to be much more explosive, perhaps going by how Breaking Bad literally went out with a bang. But Jimmy’s story ended in a very different way compared to its parent series, with Jimmy turning over a new leaf to go in the other direction. After owning up to his various misdeeds and contributions to Heisenberg’s empire, the former “Saul Goodman” was sentenced to spend nearly 90 years in federal prison. At the same time, coming clean bought him back a piece of his soul as well as the forgiveness of the love of his life.

The ending is bleak yet hopeful, and as Odenkirk explains, it wasn’t what he expected at all, but he’s very happy about that. From the interview:
The actor went on to note how he thought the ending to the show was “beautiful,” providing a perfect conclusion by having its characters reach what they’d been growing toward throughout all six seasons.

Seehorn also spoke about the ending of the show. She appreciated how the journey ended for these characters, noting that their relationship was special as it always felt like Jimmy and Kim were the only ones who ever really understood one another. It would explain why Kim reunites with Jimmy after his incarceration, even if their relationship is now dramatically different.
There are no plans to develop any new TV shows set in the Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul universe at this time, and chances are, we have seen the last of these characters.
