Fans will be able to see something new from Betty White one last time. The late comedy legend, who passed away on New Year’s Eve at the age of 99, had participated in a special documentary that will screen in theaters on what would have been White’s 100th birthday. She recorded an interview for the project just ten days before her passing, and it will be the last on-screen appearance for White.

After White’s passing, the doc’s producer’s Steve Boettcher and Mike Trinklein announced that the screening would be moving forward as planned. While it was initially titled Betty White: 100 Years Young — A Birthday Celebration, the event has been redubbed as simply Betty White: A Celebration. As Boettcher explain to THR, the change also came with some heavy editing to the doc to reflect that she had passed as opposed to serving as a birthday celebration.

The producer also shared the story of how the experience filming White’s last interview went incredibly well, as the late Golden Girls star spoke from the heart and her love for the fans really comes through in the footage.

Betty White was not overly involved with the special, but she did consult and contribute in some pretty big ways. The doc features a variety of interviews from many celebrities who knew or worked with White over the years. Determining who to interview was rather easy, because as Boettcher explains, White personally provided a list of some of her many friends she thought would be a good fit. She was right, as they were all eager to get involved.

Betty White: A Celebration will be screening in theaters on Jan. 17, 2022. You can find out more information and purchase tickets at the official website for Fathom Events.
