Time has generated some controversy with the magazine’s pick for 2021’s Person of the Year. On Monday, the publication revealed that they’re bestowing the title upon Elon Musk, the richest man in the world. Certainly, there would be people who’d disagree no matter who was named, and Musk is no exception with many people crying foul. Some are going so far as to name suggestions on who would’ve been a better pick than Musk. Naturally, Betty White has emerged as a popular candidate.
“Betty White is trending and it’s some people wondering why she isn’t Time’s Person of the Year. Personally, I agree that she should be because she’s so cool,” author Eric Johnson writes.

“WHY? What a waste!” someone else says in response to the Elon Musk reveal. “You know who should be person of the year? Someone like Betty White.”
Another tweet reads, “Betty White, Dolly Parton, Nancy Pelosi, anyone other than a man who has more money than sense. His rocket money could have gone to give his employees raises, gone to COVID research or to pay the taxes he has successfully been able to keep from paying for years.”
And in response to a photoshop of Betty White on a Time magazine cover, another fan of the actress said, “I would think Betty White would be a great choice, such a lovable person! hope she hangs around for a few more…just stay healthy.”
Additionally, White has been getting some extra attention from fans online lately in anticipation of a big birthday coming up for the legendary actress. In just over a month, the Golden Girls favorite will turn 100 years old, and many fans are already celebrating by praising White and remembering some of her best career moments. We can be sure her name will also be trending on her birthday with thousands of fans coming out to pay tribute to the popular and beloved superstar.
Author Ray Richmond also writes out a hundred of those moments in the new book Betty White: 100 Remarkable Moments in an Extraordinary Life, recently published by Becker & Mayer Books. The book delves into how White has managed to stay relevant and popular from one decade into the next, from her starring role in The Golden Girls during the 80s to joining the sitcom Hot in Cleveland in the 2010s. She also hosted Saturday Night Live in 2010 thanks to a viral fan campaign and had a starring role opposite Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock in The Proposal.
And she’s not through yet. White is also planning to star as a character who helps Santa Claus impersonators with their training in a Christmas movie in the works for Lifetime. She had intended to film the project last year, but it was delayed due to the pandemic and doesn’t yet have a new release date set. It won’t be airing for the 2021 holiday season, but maybe the then-100-year-old can see it arrive by this time in 2022.
Betty White will turn 100 on Jan. 17, but there’s nothing to stop you from celebrating the actress’s amazing career now, as many others are already doing. With or without Time’s Person of the Year moniker, White is perhaps the most beloved celebrity of all. Happy early birthday, Betty!
