Production on the long-awaited Beverly Hills Cop 4 is now underway, and more images from filming have emerged, revealing the return of more original characters alongside Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley. After some speculation and worry, both Judge Reinhold and John Ashton have now been spotted on set, with the actors reprising their roles as Detective William “Billy” Rosewood and Sergeant John Taggart respectively.
Released courtesy of @davidleestokes, the images show both Judge Reinhold and John Ashton in good spirits, with their smiles and obvious delight to be back no doubt reflected in the faces of Beverly Hills Cop fans everywhere. Until now, it was not known whether Reinhold and Ashton would be joining Eddie Murphy in the fourth Beverly Hills Cop outing, which has now been officially titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. And it sure is great to see them back.

Released in the before time of 1984, the first Beverly Hills Cop introduced audiences to Eddie Murphy as Detective Axel Foley, a reckless young cop with a penchant for cracking jokes and getting the job done. Directed by Martin Brest, Beverly Hills Cop finds Foley heading to Beverly Hills, California, to solve the murder of his best friend, teaming up with Sergeant John Taggart and Detective Billy Rosewood along the way.
Beverly Hills Cop was a huge critical and commercial success, spawning a franchise and launching Eddie Murphy into the Hollywood stratosphere. The last audiences saw of Axel Foley was in Beverly Hills Cop III nearly 30 years ago. Fans have been waiting and wondering whether Murphy would be persuaded to come back for more for quite some time, and with the recent surge in legacy sequels, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley is now a go.
Eddie Murphy Has Been Spotted on the Set of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley

The delightful sight of both Judge Reinhold and John Ashton is not the first time we have been treated to images from the set of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, with Eddie Murphy seen in costume as the great Axel Foley. Wearing a jacket similar to the one he first wore all those years ago, Murphy is shown with his arm in a sling. Which seemingly confirms that Axel will be up to his old tricks.
As well as Murphy, Reinhold, and Ashton, original star Paul Reiser will also return in the sequel as Detective Jeffrey Friedman.
Plot details for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley are currently being kept under wraps, but we can safely assume that Axel will be drawn back to Beverly Hills once again to tackle crime and catch the criminals behind it. Though we do not know the plot, several details surrounding Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley have now been revealed. Joining Eddie Murphy in the highly anticipated sequel are Taylour Paige (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, The Toxic Avenger) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer, The Dark Knight Rises).
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley does not yet have a release date but will debut on Netflix.
