Comedian and The Mandalorian star Bill Burr opened up on the infamous Gina Carano situation. After appearing in two seasons of the Star Wars series, Carano was let go from her role as Cara Dune due to problematic posts she had shared on social media. The firing was very controversial as many supported the decision while others slammed Disney and Lucasfilm, feeling that giving Carano the boot for weighing in on politics online was unfair.
You can put Burr in that latter category. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Burr reflected back upon what happened with Carano, with whom he appeared on The Mandalorian before her exit. Burr remembers “how cool she was as a person,” even though he personally didn’t share her beliefs on certain issues. He feels that Carano’s firing was unjust and, in fact, only proved the point that she was trying to make. Here’s what Burr said when asked if firing Carano was a fair move.

Bill Burr goes on to comment he couldn’t really get involved at the time, as he didn’t want to further disrupt The Mandalorian. Looking at it now, he bemoans how someone can lose work based on their personal, political beliefs. He also comments on how other celebrities have come under fire for posts they had made on Twitter several years in the past, such as what happened with Kevin Hart stepping down as Oscars host. As far as Burr can tell, this only makes these celebrities seem that much better.
This isn’t the first time Burr has defended Carano. In March of last year, he said on his podcast that he had to watch what he says about the situation as someone who’s a part of The Mandalorian, but he still made it clear that he wasn’t happy about Carano’s dismissal. As Burr said at the time:
Burr would not confirm if he will appear in the third season of The Mandalorian, though it’s safe to say we won’t be seeing Cara Dune in season 3.
It’s a weird time….Unless she did some truly horrible sht or said overtly racist sht. I don’t know. I think there is just too many channels. And then you gotta do sensational sht…I don’t know what the fck it is. I’m on that fcking show. Now, I gotta watch what the f** I say… She was an absolute sweetheart. Super nice fing person. And you know whatever and somehow someone will take this video and they’ll make me say something else and try to get rid of my bald action figure…It’s how it is out there. It’s fing crazy times. People just waiting, laying in the weeds."
