Comedian and actor Bill Burr chimed in on the ongoing Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial on his Monday Morning Podcast and he was as opinionated as ever. Back in 2018, Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post describing herself as a survivor of domestic abuse. Depp says this is false and that the alleged hoax tarnished his career by costing him big roles including Pirates of the Carribean 6. He is suing for $50 million while Heard has counter-sued for $100 million, insisting she’s telling the truth.

Burr admits he doesn’t spend too much time watching the trial footage as someone who’s a big fan of Depp. He does say that Depp is “destroying” with what he has seen of the trial, feeling that the actor is making a pretty good case that his ex-wife defamed him with fabricated assault claims. Burr thinks about all of the negativity he had seen directed toward Depp because of the allegations and feels that those same people should now be apologizing to the former Pirates of the Caribbean star. Here’s what Burr said, per Variety:

On Depp’s doubters, Burr added:

“I’m too big a Johnny Depp fan to watch [the trial]. I love that guy and I just — I don’t want to hear all these personal details and sht. From what I’ve seen the guy is f**ing destroying. And what’s great about this, is if he really does expose this woman for lying, I’m wondering if all these people that, you know, just accepted her lies about him if they’re going to apologize somehow.”

“It’d be nice if they publicly apologized and said, ‘Maybe next time we won’t jump to conclusions.’ It really does amaze me how the pendulum just does not seem to swing the other way. All of these women’s groups that when they see a woman that lies like this, which really hurts their position, because there are women out there that are in a relationship that this woman evidently lied and claimed that she was in. And for someone to go out and lie about it, it hurts the people that are actually in it! You would think they would cover this.”

Other celebrities have spoken out about the famous defamation trial. Howard Stern took a very different stance than Bill Burr by heavily criticizing Johnny Depp. The shock jock accused Depp of wanting the trial televised because he’s a “narcissist” who thought he could talk his way through the proceedings. Stern also accused Depp of faking his accent, noting that the actor was born in Kentucky but didn’t sound that way on the stand. Depp was indeed born in Kentucky, though his family had moved frequently during his childhood.

Drew Barrymore also got into some hot water when she referred to the trial as a “seven-layer dip of insanity” on her daytime talk show. She later posted a video to Instagram apologizing for “making light” of the situation. You can watch that video below.

“The reason he wanted that on — he wanted it televised [because] that’s what narcissists do. They think they can talk their way out of anything. I think Johnny Depp is a huge narcissist and what I mean by that is — he figured, ‘I’ll put this on TV and because I’m so persuasive and because I’m so smart, I’m such a wonderful guy… And the accent. First of all, isn’t he from like the South of the Midwest? Johnny Depp was born in Kentucky. Does that sound like a guy from Kentucky?”
