More legal problems await Bill Cosby as the comedian and TV star formerly known as “America’s dad” has been slapped with a new lawsuit. Per TMZ, Cosby has been sued by five women who allege that they’d been sexually assaulted. Something else the alleged victims have in common is that they say Cosby had misled them by masquerading as a mentor for their budding careers in show business only to allegedly assault them when they were young and vulnerable.
One of the plaintiffs, Lili Bernard, had played Mrs. Minifield in a 1992 episode of The Cosby Show; she claims Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions, alleging that she was also physically attacked when she threatened to go to the police. Actress Eden Tirl, who played a policewoman on Cosby, says she was sexually assaulted in the actor’s dressing room on the set. The three other alleged victims — Jewel Gittens, Jennifer Thompson, and Cindra Ladd — are also claiming to have been raped.

This all follows a fall from grace for Cosby after spending several decades enjoying his status as one of America’s most beloved celebrities. Thinsg took a turn when allegations of sexual assault began coming to light, spreading like wildfire on social media during the rise of the #MeToo movement. After his career nosedived, Cosby was charged and convicted of indecent assault in 2018 and sentenced to spend ten years behind bars. However, due to a violation of an immunity deal organized by Cosby’s legal team, the Ghost Dad star was released from prison in 2021 after serving about three years.
Cosby’s representative, Andrew Wyatt, doesn’t seem too bothered by the new lawsuit. He spoke with TMZ about how these accusations aren’t new and that the suit itself is “frivolous,” suggesting it to be relatiation for Cobsy getting “vindicated” with his prison sentence overturned. According to Wyatt, the lawsuit was filed because the accusers are “all about money,” but that he’s confident Cosby won’t be found liable in the courtroom.

Getting out of prison means that Cosby gets to sleep more comfortably at night, but it hasn’t meant that he’s out of the woods with his legal problems. Earlier this year, he lost a civil trial brought against him by Judy Huth, a woman who says she was sexually assaulted by Cosby when she was 16 years old. The jury agreed that Cosby “intentionally caused harmful sexual contact” to the plaintiff, ordering the actor to pay out $500,000 in damages. While that’s a lot of money, Cosby seemed to be pretty grateful at the time that the damages weren’t much higher, a result of the jury not awarding punitive damages.
“What? That’s all? Booyah!” Wyatt quoted Cosby as saying of the result.
