It has been a while since we had a chance to binge on our favorite sci-fi Netflix TV series Black Mirror. For those wondering how long it has been, the last season, which featured the unpopular Miley Cyrus’ “Ashley O,” came out in mid-2019. This has been the longest hiatus the show has had since its premiere back in 2011.

Black Mirror is an anthology series with a massive fan following and critical acclaim. The episodes occur in the past, present, and future and analyze the different forms of technology and its impact on humanity. Some of it helps us while the others appear to be a destruction of society and humanity itself. It goes without saying that certain episodes resonated with fans and critics more than the others, but the show’s cultural impact has truly been impressive.

We know that for the show’s die-hard fans, the wait has not been easy. While Netflix is not releasing a lot of information yet, here is everything we know about Black Mirror season 6.

The Potential Cast

     Netflix

Since Black Mirror is an anthology series, every episode has an entirely new cast with original characters. That said, there are exceptions to this where we have seen the same actor play different roles in different episodes. These include Daniel Lapaine, Hannan John-Kamen, and Michaela Coel. Furthermore, Black Mirror series writer and creator mentioned in an interview with The Independent that he is considering writing sequels to certain Black Mirror episodes like “Be Right Back” and “White Bear,” which would potentially provide an opportunity for the cast of those episodes to return. Cast on those episodes includes Hayley Atwell, Domhnall Gleeson, and Lenora Crichlow.

As opposed to the earlier seasons, which featured primarily British actors, the more recent seasons saw British and American actors with some big names like Miley Cyrus, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anthony Mackie, Jon Hamm, and many more. With the show being so popular globally, many fans want to see their favorites be a part of this series. Amongst several, some common names we keep seeing are Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jake Gyllenhaal, Timothee Chalamet, Bryan Cranston, Tatiana Maslany, Jared Leto, Rosamund Pike, John Boyega, Danny DeVito, Adam Driver, and many more. Due to the show’s success, no actor is seemingly off-limits.

Will There Be Another Bandersnatch?

In his interview with Yahoo Movies UK, Charlie Brooker did tease some unused ideas he had that he was thinking of using to make another episode like the choose your own adventure-style Bandersnatch. He goes on to say:

Yet again, there isn’t any official announcement about another Bandersnatch-type choose your own adventure. However, it is what that could be necessary to tide us over for the time until season 6 comes out.

“There are all sorts of other ideas came about during the making of Bandersnatch which we may get to in the future. The thing is, if you’re doing an interactive episode, it needs to justify itself. There needs to be a compelling narrative reason as to why you’re using that otherwise, it is just a gimmick.”

Indefinite Hiatus

So far, there hasn’t been any official announcement from Netflix for Black Mirror season six, or it could happen. On the upside, there isn’t any official announcement on whether the show has been canceled either, which is excellent, but it does seem to be on an indefinite hiatus. Charlie Brooker stated that the horrors that humanity witnessed throughout 2020 due to the Covid pandemic might decrease the audience’s appetite for the dystopian series. He did write and produce Netflix’s Death to 2020, a comedy special that was released at the end of 2020. Beyond that, there hasn’t been much about what Brooker has been up to. It is possible that he could be busy working on season six, just as much as it is entirely possible that he has not been.

Given what we have seen with past seasons, we can safely assume that from the past production cycles, a new season for Black Mirror would take a minimum of a year to produce. So, if Brooker started working on the series sometime in early 2021 after Death to 2020. It is possible that we could see a trailer for Black Mirror season six drop sometime soon this year. But again, this is all based on assumptions and hopes.

Where to Watch Black Mirror?

If the sixth season of Black Mirror does end up happening, you will be able to watch it on Netflix along with the other seasons. In the meantime, you can re-watch the episodes from seasons one to five along with the Bandersnatch choose your own adventure interactive film to keep your Black Mirror thirst quenched.
