Has the New Black Panther Now Been Revealed?
Marvel Studios
Following on from the recently released trailer and an earlier poster, star Letitia Wright is being put front-and-center across the marketing material for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. While it has not yet been fully, officially, definitely confirmed, it is looking more and more likely that Wright’s character, Shuri, will don the claws and vibranium suit as the new Black Panther.
Wright recently revealed that Shuri becoming Black Panther is something that has been discussed before between herself and director Ryan Coogler due to the character taking up the mantle in the pages of Marvel Comics. “That’s a tricky question to answer. I had a chat about it with Ryan and Chad when we were making Black Panther, and we touched on it briefly,” Wright explained. “When I realized I was playing Shuri, it was something that I really looked forward to.”
Potential SPOILER warning, as an alleged plot leak has claimed that it will indeed be Shuri who becomes Black Panther in the sequel, and that she will be the one to defeat Namor and his invasion of Wakanda. However, the leak goes on to claim that, while Shuri will become the superhero, she will not become the ruler of Wakanda. Instead, Winston Duke’s M’Baku will become king, thus allowing the two characters to work together to continue the legacy of T’Challa.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 11, 2022, as the final film in Phase Four of the MCU. A drama series set in Wakanda is also in development from Ryan Coogler for Disney+, with a spinoff following Okoye also being planned.
