After completely decimating the video rental industry, Netflix will breathe some new life into it with the debut of Blockbuster. A comedy series set in the last Blockbuster Video store in operation, Blockbuster features an ensemble cast led by Randall Park and Melissa Fumero as they oversee the struggling Blockbuster Video store in Bend, Oregon. You can get a feel for the show’s humor, and perhaps feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia, by watching the new trailer below.

“There’s no easy way to say this: seven more Blockbusters just closed. You’re officially the last one on Earth,” Park’s character is told over the phone at the start of the trailer.

“I, uh, don’t love the pattern that’s starting to emerge,” he nervously responds.

For more information about the series, the official description from Netflix is as follows:

The full ensemble cast of Blockbuster includes Randall Park (Timmy), Melissa Fumero (Eliza), Tyler Alvarez (Carlos), Madeleine Arthur (Hannah), Olga Merediz (Connie), JB Smoove (Percy), and Kamaia Fairburn (Kayla).

Vanessa Ramos (Superstore, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) created Blockbuster and serves as writer and showrunner. Ramos also executive produced with Jackie Clarke, David Caspe, and John David & John Fox for Davis Entertainment.

“To say getting to make a show about a place I love, with my friends Jackie and David, and Randall Park as our star is a dream come true, somehow feels like an understatement,” Ramos said in a statement when the show was first announced. “I could not be more grateful to Jim and Megan at Universal for supporting this project since day one and Tracey, Andy, and the whole team at Netflix for being on board with so many weird jokes.”

Tracey Pakosta, head of comedy for Netflix, added: “This is ultimately the story of a dedicated group of co-workers, with a lot of heart. And now with the hilarious Randall Park signing on to play the lead, it’s a no brainer.”

Blockbuster will start streaming on Nov. 3, 2022. The season will consist of ten 30-minute episodes. You can watch it on the Netflix app and at Netflix.com/Blockbuster.
