Indiana Jones 5 is one of the most anticipated movies of 2023 and marks the return of Harrison Ford as the titular archaeologist and adventurer after 15 years. James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari, Logan) is directing the film, replacing Steven Spielberg, who helmed all four previous installments of the Indiana Jones franchise.
Indiana Jones 5 is expected to be the final film of the series, and the makers are leaving no stone unturned to deliver a spectacular send-off to the beloved franchise and Harrison Ford. Boyd Holbrook, who watched a portion of Indiana Jones 5 recently, praised Ford and promised a “badass” and emotional movie. Talking to Men’s Health, Holbrook said:

Holbrook is excited to work with James Mangold again after Logan, and like the producers, he too believes the director will exceed expectations. Mangold has written Indiana Jones 5 with Ford v Ferrari scribes Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, and his fresh perspective on the franchise has been commended by producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.
“I can assure you that it’s going to be badass. I got to see like half an hour of it when I went to L.A., and I saw Jim. You know, just look at his work: Ford v Ferrari, it’s gonna be fast, it’s gonna be badass, and it’s gonna have heart. All of his films have this emotional beat in them, but we’ve got this grand scale of Indiana Jones.”
As for Harrison Ford, the 80-year-old icon continues to wow his peers with his agility. Holbrook and Antonio Banderas were both left starstruck by Ford on the set of Indiana Jones 5. And Holbrook, being a lifelong fan of the series is especially grateful to be a part of the Indiana Jones and star alongside Ford.
“And Harrison is the best type of crazy you can get. And I really grew up with Indiana Jones. I wasn’t so big on other franchises, and stuff like that, but to do that, it really just reignited why I want to do this. Because you live on the road. It’s been about 10 months on the road right now, being a traveling circus with your family. It was just refreshing to want to go through all that. To do something and to make something that’s burned into eternity. To be part of Indiana Jones—It’s pretty great”
Indiana Jones 5 Will Reportedly Feature Nazis And Time Travel
Paramount Pictures
Indiana Jones 5 may have been billed as a fresh take on the franchise, but it will not alienate the old audience. Mads Mikkelsen has teased that Indiana Jones 5 will feel like the original movie, and Spielberg, though not involved creatively, has heavily influenced the tone of the film.
Also, Indiana Jones 5 will bring back Indy’s old enemies, the Nazis, and is said to feature time travel. Some reports suggest that the film will also head to outer space, which may not be such a hot idea considering the backlash to 2008’s The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but those are still rumors. Plot details for the film are still under wraps.
Indiana Jones 5 has faced significant delays, first due to Spielberg stepping down as director, then COVID-19 and Ford’s on-set injuries, but is finally set to premiere on June 30, 2023. Indiana Jones 5 also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas, and Olivier Richters.
