Spoiler Warning: Bridgerton Seasons 1-2

Shonda Rhimes’ Bridgerton is known for its fashion, love stories, and secret gossip writer. With the confirmation that the series will be going out of book order and following Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin’s (Luke Newton) love story rather than Benedict’s (Luke Thompson), it leaves us asking who else will have their love story told. We suggested the third season should follow Polin, and now that it’s becoming a reality, that gives us room to think about what else should happen during the season.

The previous seasons have followed the romances of Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) as well as Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), which were explosive romances in their own right. However, it seems like Colin and Penelope will be more of a slow burn.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The youngest Featherington daughter has pined after the Bridgerton for years but never thought they would be anything other than good friends. She gets her hopes up in season 2 when he seems to give off signals that his trip around the world may have changed things for him. However, in the finale, he says some hurtful words, causing her dreams to crumble. Theirs was one of many love stories hinted at, from Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Theo (Calam Lynch) to Edwina (Charithra Chandran) and her search.

As we wait for news on when the third season could reach our screens, let’s dive into which love stories could also play out during the season.

Eloise and Theo

     Netflix

Eloise’s love story feels like the most logical to tell alongside her (former?) best friend. It was heavily hinted at during the second season that she felt something for Theo, the printer’s apprentice who helped her with her search for Lady Whistledown. Though they had a misstep, and the famous gossip writer may have outed Eloise’s activities to the entire ton, there’s still a chance for them. The two reconciled in the end, so there’s no reason he couldn’t appear, and their story could continue.

If this were to happen, it would deviate from Eloise’s love story in the book series. In her book, she’s sent a letter by Sir Phillip Crane, who offers to marry her. Does that name ring a bell? It’s because that’s the name of the individual that marries Marina (Ruby Barker), the girl the Featheringtons take in for the season in season 1. It’s unclear if they’re the same person, but if they are, it means Eloise’s book husband is already spoken for, leaving her path clear to find love with Theo. Because they were hinted at in season 2, it would make sense to continue to build on their story.

Benedict and Sophie

Based on the books, season 3 should follow the plot of the third novel, which is about Benedict’s love story. With the confirmation that he won’t be the main love story of the season, that doesn’t mean his journey to find a wife can’t still be explored. In his book, he meets Sophie, and their story resembles the tale of Cinderella significantly. Sophie snuck into a masquerade ball and danced with Benedict before sneaking out into the night. He later tries to find her, and she ends up being a servant for her stepmother.

Watching Benedict search for his mystery girl as his younger brother tries to court a long-time family friend may be just the thing the season, and the second-oldest Bridgerton, need. When the second season ends, Benedict is at a crossroads, having quit art school after finding out Anthony paid the way, leaving the artist heartbroken. Perhaps spending his time chasing after his love match is exactly what he needs to distract himself and find his purpose in life.

Edwina and Prince Frederick

Edwina didn’t get her happy ending in season 2, and she should be given that chance in the next season. If Edwina makes a return appearance, it should be finding love with Queen Charlotte’s (Golda Rosheuvel) grandnephew Prince Frederick (Freddie Stroma). The Queen confirmed in the season finale that he still hadn’t found a wife after his disastrous attempt to court Daphne in season 1, and there’s no reason to think he will have found one between seasons (both in-universe and out-of-universe)

Their story would be nice to include alongside Penelope and Colin’s. Both Edwina and Penelope are women that have struggled to find their love match in various ways, from Edwina’s liking her sister to Penelope’s never seeming interested. It would feel like a win to see them have their happy endings when they’ve both waited so long, especially to men who will treat them well and (probably) adore them.

Prudence and ???

With the youngest Featherington sister finding love in season 3 and the middle sister already married, it’s time for the oldest one to find love. Prudence hasn’t had the best go of it. She’s been searching for love the longest of her sisters and seemingly gets more agitated with her lack of success every season. Maybe she’ll finally be able to ditch her mom and talk to some suitors.

Of course, who she could end up with is a mystery. Will it be a character viewers have briefly seen before? Maybe an entirely new suitor will come to the ton and be perfect for her. Either way, Prudence should be given a fair shot at love, just like her sisters.

Only time will tell who else will get their happy ending in the next season. Which love story do you want to see grace the screens (and the Queen)?
