It has been almost two decades since the hit comedy series Malcolm in the Middle came to an end, but Bryan Cranston would love to reprise his role as Hal Wilkerson in a reunion. In fact, the Breaking Bad star was previously reported to be trying to instigate a revival of the show in the form of a movie, and now the actor himself has addressed his desire to return to Malcolm’s world along with his onscreen wife Jane Kaczmarek and Frankie Muniz as the titular character. Speaking to E! News, Cranston said:
Cranston is not the only one who would like to know exactly where Malcolm and his family are nearly twenty years later. Frankie Muniz previously discussed his feelings about the show, having only been a child when appearing in the series. He said:
“There was some talk about the possibility of doing like a reunion movie of Malcolm in the Middle. We had such a great family on that and I certainly would be open to that if there was a good idea that came up like, ‘Oh, that would be fantastic to explore what happened to this family 20 years later.’ I can’t believe it’s already that, but that would be fun to do.”

“When I was filming the show, I obviously was a kid. We did seven seasons, 151 episodes. I didn’t really watch the show when it was on, but I’ve now since watched the show with my wife. We [watched] all 151 episodes… I realized, ‘Wow, that’s what we were making.’… I can separate myself from being on it and watching it as a fan. I would love to know what the family’s up to.”
Will Malcolm In The Middle Get the Reunion Everyone Seems to Want?

It was in October 2022 that Muniz revealed that Bryan Cranston was working on a potential script for a reunion and gave a hopeful update at the time. Muniz commented:
Of course, fans of Breaking Bad have already seen Bryan Cranston returning to his Malcolm in the Middle role, along with Kaczmarek, when the pair recorded a scene for the special features of the complete series release of Breaking Bad. In the scene, Cranston’s character of Hal is seen waking up in bed next to his wife after suffering a nightmare. It turns out the nightmare he describes is the plot of Breaking Bad, suggesting that the whole drama series was just a dream by his Malcolm in the Middle character, who ate a deep-fried Twinkie before going to bed. Naturally, this is not technically part of an actual revival of the show and just a bit of fun on Cranston’s behalf. However, in a time when reboots are commonplace on both the big and small screen, it would be foolish to think we will not see Hall, Lois, and Malcolm back on screens sometime soon.
“I know Bryan Cranston is really into the idea and he’s kind of heading writing the script and getting everything rolling. So, there might be something. I would be down 100 percent. But I don’t know - we’ll see what happens.”
