Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston has plenty of stories to tell of his time working on the iconic TV series, and recently he recalled how he was encouraged by co-star Aaron Paul to sample some of the fake blue meth made for the series. Discussing Breaking Bad while appearing on First We Feast, Cranston explained that the prop, made of sugar, gave them a bit of a lift. He explained:

“TV methamphetamine, the way we made it with a little blue tint, is actually rock candy and the flavor was cotton candy rock candy. I never tasted it until one night, we were working, it was probably the 16th or 17th hour, we’re working in our dungeon downstairs, our lab, and Gus Fring is making sure we’re working. And I see Aaron Paul reach into our product and he starts throwing the methamphetamine in his mouth. I go, ‘What are you doing? You can’t eat the product.’

He goes, ‘I’m getting so tired.’ I said, ‘You’re really getting a high off this?’ It’s like, ‘Well, it’s sugar.’ And he goes, ‘You’ve tasted it.’ I go, ‘No, I haven’t tasted it.’ He goes, ‘Oh, you should taste it.’ I go, ‘No, I don’t think so.’ And I guess I was still in character because Walter White wouldn’t. And he goes, ‘You gotta have one. [In Jesse’s voice] Yo, have one,’ is what he would say. And so, ‘All right, to shut you up…’ I tasted one and it was like, ‘That’s pretty good.’ And so they rolled the camera and he and I are just eating all the methamphetamine.”

Breaking Bad has gone down in history as one of the best television series of all time. As the current holder of the highest rating on IMDb, although it did temporarily lose its title to The Last of Us, the series has not only become an iconic piece of television history but also spawned the equally acclaimed Better Call Saul, as well as a sequel movie El Camino.

This year, fans celebrated the 15th anniversary of the series. After seeing Cranston and Paul reprise their roles as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in the final episodes of Better Call Saul in 2022, it was something many people were happy to do by returning to watch the series again. At this year’s Super Bowl, Cranston and Paul will again reprise their roles in an advert for PopCorners Popped-Corn Snack. Whether this will be the final outing for Cranston’s teacher-turned-drug dealer is yet to be seen, but fans would love to see yet more from the world of Breaking Bad in the future.
