Candy Cane Lane continues to add comedy heavy hitters to its already impressive roster. According to Variety, Robin Thede, Nick Offerman, and Chris Redd join previously announced cast members Eddie Murphy, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Jillian Bell. The accomplished group of funny people is rounded out by up-and-comers Genneya Walton (#BlackAF), Madison Thomas (9-1-1), and Thaddeus J. Mixson (Creed III), whose additions were also announced today.

Plot details for the holiday film have been kept under wraps, but the screenplay is written by Kelly Younger, who has cited personal childhood holiday memories as inspiration. The film is directed by Reginald Hudlin and produced by Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster for Eddie Murphy Productions’ and Brian Grazer and Karen Lunder for Imagine Entertainment. Candy Cane Lane reconnects Murphy, director Hudlin, and producer Grazer. The trio collaborated on 1992’s Boomerang.

Candy Cane Lane’s Comedy All-Star Cast

     ABC

If its cast is any indication of how entertaining Candy Cane Lane will be, audiences should be prepared to laugh (a lot). Murphy’s career spans over 40 years, dating back to his start on Saturday Night Live. Some of his notable film credits include 48 Hrs., Trading Places, Coming to America, and its recent sequel, Dream Girls and Dolemite is My Name. Tracee Ellis Ross is best known for her work on the television series Girlfriends and Black-ish. In 2019, she co-created a prequel to the latter, Mixed-ish. She next is set to star in, and executive produce Jodie, a spinoff of MTV’s Daria, where she’ll voice the titular character. Jillian Bell is best known for starring in Brittany Runs a Marathon and Workaholics.

Offerman rose to stardom following his portrayal of Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation. He has also appeared in The Founders, A League of Their Own, and Pam & Tommy, and has voiced characters on animated series including Gravity Falls and The Great Northern. He recently reunited with Parks and Recreation co-star Amy Poehler for NBC’s Making It, a crafting competition the duo co-hosts. He will next be seen in HBO’s anticipated The Last of Us.

Thede is the creator of HBO’s sketch comedy series A Black Lady Sketch Show. Thede also stars in, writes, executive produces, and serves as showrunner for the Emmy Award-winning series. Redd was a Saturday Night Live cast member for five years. He now stars in Bust Down, a comedy series about a group of friends working at an Indiana casino. Redd is a co-creator and writer for the series, as well.
