Captain America: New World Order has been steadily growing hype since the movie was announced. As the film comes together and more fun facts are revealed, anticipation for Captain America 4 just grows and grows. It was already exciting enough to see the film included in the MCU’s Phase 5. Fans have speculated on plots and where New World Order will take us, but there is little we can know about a movie in such early stages of development. But one thing that has kept the hype going for New World Order is its cast.
There have been two huge cast announcements recently that might foretell big things happening in Captain America 4. One was the introduction of Tim Blake Nelson into the MCU as Samuel Sterns, AKA The Leader. Another recently came when a small podcast leaked that Harrison Ford would replace William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, AKA the Red Hulk. We already knew a few cast members from recent Marvel productions and could guess at a few storylines. But these two MCU-shaking announcements make for an interesting wrench to be thrown in the mix.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
The MCU storyline develops every day as we steadily move closer to Secret Wars. Here’s what we expect to see based on the stunning cast already announced for Captain America: New World Order.
Characters We Saw in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Marvel Studios
Anthony Mackie made his big debut as Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but it wasn’t so much a breakout into a new identity as it was a reluctant acceptance of power. Captain America 4 will be when Anthony Mackie’s character Sam Wilson fully accepts the mantle of Captain America and truly becomes the new superhero. Though it’s likely that we won’t see Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier) in the new movie because something will probably have happened to his character to set him up for Thunderbolts right after this film.
Sam Wilson will probably have more of a relationship with Isaiah Bradley. Carl Lumby is already announced as a leading cast member in New World Order and will play Isaiah Bradley. Sam Wilson discovered that Bradley was the first Black super soldier during The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and he seems to be playing a part in the film. This is actually quite a significant plot point because, along with Isaiah Bradley, we were introduced to his grandson Eli Bradley, also known as Patriot.
Elijah Richardson, who played Eli on the Disney+ series, has not been announced for a role in Captain America 4, but Eli Bradley is a big role in the future of the MCU. Patriot is a founding member of the Young Avengers. And after we saw Eli Bradley with some super soldier serum in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we can only wait until he finally shows himself as Patriot. Captain America 4 might be just the place to do it.
Shira Haas will play Sabra in the movie, indicating how far-reaching this New World Order actually is. Sabra is the first superhuman agent to work for Mossad, the Israeli special police force. And Danny Ramirez will reprise his role from Falcon as Joaquin Torres, meaning it’s likely we might finally see his transformation into the new Falcon. Though given some big changes from the comics, one can only wonder how his superpowers will develop.
Big Names in New World Order
Disney/Marvel Studios
Over the past few months, two very big names have been added to the roster of Captain America 4. The first is Tim Blake Nelson from The Incredible Hulk in 2008. Last we saw Nelson as Samuel Sterns. He had just been exposed to some dangerous Hulk chemicals and gamma radiation. The movie didn’t take us beyond that, but fans of the comics know that this was the beginning of his transformation into The Leader.
By the time New World Order takes place, the Leader will be fully formed and saturated in villainy. If New World Order uses The Leader as one of its main villains, we’ll see Tim Blake Nelson working with Hydra, or some form thereof, and using his ill-gotten genius to help them conquer the world.
The second announcement we’ve seen is Harrison Ford in the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in Captain America: New World Order. It would be a good time to reintroduce the character. If the MCU wanted to create Gen. Ross’s particular incarnation of the Thunderbolts in their eponymous movie, then New World Order would provide the studio with all kinds of opportunities not just to set Gen. Ross up with a motive to create the team but also to make himself into the Red Hulk.
Having the character back in the MCU creates a slew of possibilities, especially right before Thunderbolts comes out.
