The latest images from DC’s Black Adam tease Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the iconic anti-hero in his full glory. After months of build-up, it looks like the marketing campaign for Black Adam has officially begun. We can expect the first full-length trailer to drop anytime now. Total Film has released the new Black Adam images with Dwayne Johnson featuring on the cover of the magazine’s latest edition. You can check out the pics below.
We can see Dwayne Johnson wearing two different Black Adam costumes. The first one is similar to Zachary Levi’s Shazam costume but without the cape and the padding. As if Johnson really needs any more padding to further highlight those big, bulging arms of his. As for the cape, it will likely be added using CGI. And the second costume is the one Johnson has been teasing ever since the film’s announcement. He can be seen donning a dark, hooded cloak as he talks to the director, Jaume Collet-Serra. While the blue tint and Johnson’s physique give off some Dr. Manhattan vibes, the San Andreas star looks incredible as Black Adam. Guess Johnson wasn’t kidding when he said he was born to play this role.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Black Adam is one of DC Comics’ most powerful and iconic characters. Created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck, Black Adam initially served as the arch-enemy of Shazam, but subsequent iterations have also recognized him as an anti-hero. Black Adam, or Teth-Adam, was a slave from the city of Kahndaq when he was chosen as a champion by the wizard Shazam. Called Mighty Adam at the time, he abused his powers to exact revenge and released the Seven Deadly Sins. Due to his violent ways, he was imprisoned for 5000 years and came to be known as Black Adam.
The upcoming DC film will chronicle Black Adam’s journey as he breaks free of his shackles and delivers his own brand of justice. Dwayne Johnson has been campaigning for a decade to play Black Adam. Johnson’s passion for the character stems from his backstory. In his interview with Total Film, Johnson says,
While Black Adam isn’t going the way of Deadpool or Logan, the film will still embrace the violent tendencies of the titular character. The filmmakers have promised Black Adam will push the boundaries of the PG-13 rating and have a very high kill count. Just how high, we’ll know when the film releases next summer on July 29, 2022. Black Adam also introduces the Justice Society of America with Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz/Isis, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.
“But there was always something unique, different about Black Adam. He was a villain, an antihero, depending on your interpretation of what a villain is. I loved this idea that his pain and rage comes from loss, and was fuelled by oppression. And at some point, he refused to be held down any more. If you wrong him, his family, or his people, then you will die. Period. That is just that simple”
