When audiences think of Disney now, it is easy to imagine the biggest pop culture institution in the world. They own some of the biggest brand names in Hollywood history, and a new generation of audiences have only known a world where Star Wars and Marvel were Disney properties. Disney has always been a family-friendly company and has often made films attempting to appeal to people of all ages and genders, but at the turn of the 21st century, they found themselves in an odd place....

A host of provocative directors, actors and writers – including award-winning directors John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), Darren Bousman (Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV), Ronny Yu (Freddy vs. Jason, Bride Of Chucky), Brad Anderson (The Machinist), Breck Eisner (upcoming Universal Pictures film Creature from the Black Lagoon), Mary Harron (American Psycho), Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator) and Ernest Dickerson (NBC’s Heroes) – have been signed for NBC’s Fear Itself a new 13-episode suspense and horror anthology series from Lionsgate in association with Industry Entertainment....

Since the season one finale premiered earlier this month, the hit new sitcom Abbott Elementary has already been renewed for a highly anticipated second season following an announcement in March before the show’s breakthrough season even concluded. Its debut was a resounding success; the show has achieved staggering ratings and viewers and has rightfully been awarded an impressive 97% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show’s humor and mockumentary-style narrative device are comparable to its wildly popular sitcom predecessors, The Office and Parks and Recreation....

No, it was actually Charlie Kaufman in his 2002 screenplay for Adaptation, his film about himself and his imaginary brother adapting the book The Orchid Thief after the success of Kaufman’s previous film Being John Malkovich....

Prey was one of 2022’s biggest surprises, especially for Predator fans, after the disappointing movie from 2018. Far from that failure and from the big screen too, since it debuted directly on streaming through Hulu, the new film earned the love of the audience and the applause of the critics. It seems the ArrowVerse is no more. The CW, the network behind a number of superhero shows based on characters from the world of DC Comics, has seemingly rebranded the growing universe as The CWVerse. This is a logical move, considering that Arrow, the show that kicked off this universe eight years ago, ended its run earlier this year. With that, it seems the ArrowVerse is no more. Long live The CWVerse....

With a vast filmography that includes some of the most iconic horror movies of the past two decades, it’s hard to imagine anyone but Neve Campbell playing Sidney Prescott in the Scream franchise. But in addition to the fun but scary Wes Craven classics, Campbell has starred in over 30 movies, ranging from independent films to big-budget studio features. Streaming services have taken over as the main form of entertainment consumption, far surpassing the number of network television viewers. After Netflix’s surge in popularity in the mid 2010s, a number of services began popping up to compete, essentially offering what Netflix wasn’t able to. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, the number of streaming services has tripled, with the release of a variety of services like Paramount+, AppleTV+, and, somewhat more recently, AMC+....

Compared to other streaming services, Disney+ appears to be more careful and strategic with its new releases, particularly with respect to its MCU and Star Wars franchises, building upon existing films and TV series and expanding what we know about each universe. Indeed, the newest highly talked-about spectacle that has caught everyone’s attention is no other than the Star Wars prequel series Andor. Upon its premier in September 2022, Andor was immediately praised as one of the best Star Wars TV series yet....

Tobagonian actor and heartthrob Winston Duke took the world by storm with his career-defining role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Panther. Born in Saint Paul, Tobago, the actor moved to the States with his mother and sister at the age of nine, beginning his acting career in theater productions before guest-starring in an episode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. He was later cast in a recurring role in Person of Interest, along with a few other TV series, before his first significant film role as M’Baku....

The Good A well made show that doesn’t mind taking a long road to get where it is going. The Bad No Special Features of any sort. Running from 1965 to 1969, The Big Valley: Season 2, Vol. 1 is one of those Boomer TV shows that really tells a good tale. While in many ways looking and even feeling like Bonanza, this show chronicled the Barkley family and the life they lived in the San Joaquin Valley in the 1870s....

Black Adam will finally bring Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero to the DCEU this October. Despite a number of fan theories predicting Superman or Shazam could make a cameo in the film, it seems that all expectation of that happening should be abandoned now. Appearing at SDCC, director Jaume Collet-Serra, who also directed Johnson in Disney’s Jungle Cruise, discussed the film, and also shut down the rumors of other superheroes appearing in the movie, saying it is too early in the timeline for any of that to happen....

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever opens in cinemas next week. In the lead-up to the movie’s release, director Ryan Coogler has been answering many questions about the movie, his relationship with the cast, and of course, his previous work with Chadwick Boseman on the original Black Panther. In what has been an emotional time for all of those involved in the evolution of this film, that level of completely overwhelming emotion came to the fore when Coogler spoke of how Boseman was “too tired” to even read the script due to his hidden illness....

Marvel may have now confirmed a major element of their upcoming Blade reboot, as young actress and The Wonder Years star Milan Ray has reportedly been added to the cast. Coming courtesy of The Direct, the child actress has joined the MCU project “as a key character,” and while details are currently unconfirmed, it is very possible that she could be playing Blade’s daughter, Fallon Grey. The casting of the 14-year-old actress Milan Ray, who is best known for her roles in The Wonder Years and Modern Love, lines up with the previous rumor that Fallon Grey will play a major role in Marvel’s Blade....

The Good Tom Hanks, Peter Scolari and this entire cast are superb. The Bad No Extra Features. No Billy Joel theme song. In Bosom Buddies: The First Season Kip (Tom Hanks) and Henry (Peter Scolari) are two roommates working at an ad agency together. They awake one morning to find that the building they live in is being demolished, and they set about finding a new place to live. They ask Amy (Wendie Jo Sperber) if they can stay with her and she says “yes” but the catch is she lives in a hotel for women only....

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE Hop was the big winner at the weekend box office with an almost stunning $38 million take placing it well above industry expectations. Unsurprisingly, the crowd was mostly families and kids under 12. But the parents on my Facebook and Twitter feeds who dared venture out to take in this kid flick were almost universally underwhelmed by it. The kids liked it though, so that’s something. It also had the biggest opening weekend of any movie this year....

It’s been a few fantastic months for Brendan Fraser. His most recent film, The Whale, is killing it at Award shows, with the actor just winning a Critics Choice Award for his interpretation in the Darren Aronofsky movie. During his speech, while receiving the recognition, Brendan thanked the fans for supporting him after so many years in the dark. Through Twitter, a video surfaced of Fraser making a special appearance at a double feature of The Mummy at the Prince Charles Cinema, taking some time off to interact with the audience:...
