For so long, there has been a lack of LGBTQ+ representation in movies. While progress has certainly been made, especially considering the surge in queer stories being featured in cinema over the last handful of years, there’s still a detectable emptiness around transgender characters—not cisgender people playing trans character, but transgender actors being granted the same opportunities to play trans characters onscreen. There’s an abundance of high-profile and talented transgender actors, like Laverne Cox and Elliot Page, and even more unknown talents out there, but trans characters in movies don’t always get the chance for their stories to be told authentically by trans actors....

The CW has released a brand new promo for their upcoming Black Lightning series. Buoyed by favorable consumer response to Blu-ray in the fourth quarter, consumer electronics manufacturers Jan. 7 showcased the format in several new profile 2.0 players and related home theater products, during press day at the 2009 International CES confab. Panasonic unveiled the BD60, BD80 and BD70V profile 2.0 players that are synched with the manufacturer’s Viera-branded HDTVs that enable interactivity with the Internet. The company also introduced a portable Blu-ray player with 1080p resolution with BD Live functionality, available this summer....

When it comes to genre films, it’s always the tropes that bring these movies to life. With time, filmmakers are pulled to parody or subvert these elements, but there’s no denying the magic that these same genre conventions inserted into the genre’s classic entries. The hallway fight scene is one such trope that regretfully isn’t seen all too often. It’s not difficult to see why — when done right, the hallway scene is all about the grittiness, the long take, and showcasing the cast and crew’s prowess in capturing and performing action....

A Chinese-American NYPD rookie accidentally kills an innocent black man while chasing a teenager through an apartment building. Racial profiling, police brutality, ethnic conflicts, and the so-called “blue wall of silence” are addressed with stark realism. Director/writer Aimee Long pulls no punches in her feature film debut. A Shot Through the Wall takes a complex view of the protagonist’s situation without resorting to cheap theatrics....

Saturday Night Live went out with a literal bang in 2019, when Eddie Murphy returned to the long-standing sketch comedy show for the first time in nearly 40 years. Ratings for that episode went through the roof, as Eddie Murphy returned to his old stomping grounds to host the show and reprise some of his most beloved characters such as Gumby, Mr. Robinson and Buckwheat. Now, SNL enters a new decade in 2020, and it has announced the first three hosts who will be ushering in a new era for the comedy classic....

Filmmaker Adam McKay and actor Will Ferrell were two peas in a pod at one point, spending decades collaborating on fan favorite comedies like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and Step Brothers. Back in 2014, Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment acquired the rights to author Anne Rice’s novel series The Vampire Chronicles, which included the iconic novels Interview With the Vampire, Queen of the Damned and The Vampire Lestat.
