There have been several dark moments in history that have affected, even destroyed, the lives of millions. Disaster can strike when you least expect it, leaving you to pick up the pieces. Throughout history, natural disasters, war, and terrorism have shaped the world that we currently live in. At the same time, in situations such as these, we can see many rise to the occasion. After the tragic Boston Marathon Bombing, for example, we saw the city of Boston band together to show that terrorism won’t break them....

In the past few decades, television went from being seen as a detriment to intellectualism to becoming a new kind of literacy, at least in terms of the amount of time very smart people now spend watching screens. Just as literary classics like Pride & Prejudice or The Grapes of Wrath can spend years on people’s lists without them ever actually reading the literature, ‘prestige’ TV has become simultaneously treasured and laborious to the average viewer who used to just unwind after work with a sitcom....

There are countless wars which are rarely remembered, but when a war gets big enough to involve most, if not all, of the world, there’s no doubt it’s had a global impact. As historical movies remain popular, World War II is still the most common war to use as a backdrop for genre, whether it means telling real stories, bringing books written about the war to life, or just in general trying to make sure people don’t forget about the war....

With all the articles about the current format war between HD-DVD and Blu-ray disc one has to wonder if there will ever be a true winner. Will one go the way of Beta tape? Or, will both of them manage to coexist? These questions become even more important this week as Warner Bros. releases The Ultimate Matrix Collection ($119.99 SRP) and The Complete Matrix Trilogy ($99.99 SRP) on HD-DVD. Aside from all three films in this series getting the “treatment” in regards to being bumped up to that next generation format, consumers have a choice of a really good set or set a that that is beyond anything that fans of this franchise could ever want, need or hope to have....

To this day, cinema is still appreciating the release of Jean-Luc Godard’s 1960 crime drama, Breathless (À bout de souffle), starring the late greats Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg. Initiating the French New Wave, Breathless influenced a generation of filmmakers and cinephiles, ultimately altering the way movies were created. Fans of great French movies will recognize both the film’s title and its director, as they have both quite literally changed cinema forever....

Brendan Fraser was the highlight of the Toronto International Film Festival. The Mummy star is set to make a comeback in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, playing a 600 lb man trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter. The Whale has been receiving rave reviews, with Fraser’s performance being hailed as one of the best of the year. The Whale screened at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival recently, where Fraser was honored with the TIFF Tribute Award for performance, his first acting award in nearly two decades....

The groundbreaking show that (re)introduced us to Buffy Summers and the world of vampires, demons, and other supernatural forces has been off the air for over 15 years. The cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer was first broadcast in 1997 and ran for seven seasons, totaling 144 episodes. The show was a smash hit and was praised for its feminist messages, exploration of female sexuality, and complex female protagonists. Back in 2011, it was reported that a television studio had acquired the rights to Buffy the Vampire Slayer....

Showtime viewers will take one last romp with Hank Moody when the hit comedy series Californication’s seventh season premieres in April 2014 (date TBD), it was announced today by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. The final 12 episodes will neatly wrap up our unforgettable time following Hank (David Duchovny), Karen (Natascha McElhone), Becca (Madeleine Martin), Charlie (Evan Handler) and Marcy (Pamela Adlon) in their audacious comic mis-adventures and sexcapades....

It seems a gestating sci-fi remake is finally back on track with a new director on board. Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Carl Rinsch has signed on to direct Logan’s Run for Warner Bros. The remake had attracted potential directors such as Bryan Singer, Robert Schwentke, James McTeigue and Joseph Kosinski during its long course of development. Rinsch took Hollywood by storm recently with his short film The Gift (CLICK HERE to watch Rinsch’s short film)....

Pixar has sent over an exclusive first-look at two new characters from this summer’s highly anticipated sequel Cars 2, directed by John Lasseter and Brad Lewis. Here, we have weapons designer Professor Z (voiced by Thomas Kretschmann) and Tomber (voiced by Michel Michelis), who serves as a French Informant in this exciting animated adventure. The highly-anticipated Tamil Indian blockbuster, Valimai, finally released its first trailer on Thursday, Dec. 30th. The film stars Ajith Kumar and Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi in her second Tamil film in the lead roles with Kartikeya Gummakonda starring as the main antagonist. The film follows Kumar and Qureshi on the trail of a dangerous motorcycle gang. As one can see from the trailer, the movie is action-packed and involves massive stunts and heavy dialogue that is sure to keep an audience on the edge of their seats....

Big news for Big Love as actress Amanda Seyfried is leaving the show to pursue a career on the big screen. TV Guide Magazine is reporting that due to the success of the actress’ recent film work, which includes Mamma Mia! with Meryl Streep and Jennifer’s Body with Megan Fox, she will soon be leaving the hit HBO series to concentrate on her movie career full-time. Seyfried, who has played Bill Paxton’s eldest daughter Sarah on the drama about a family of polygamists living in Utah since 2006, will be leaving the series at the end of the upcoming season....
