Japanese actors Rinko Kikuchi, Tadanobu Asano, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Kou Shibasaki have all joined the cast of 47 Ronin for Universal Pictures. Chris Morgan (Wanted) and Hossein Amini wrote the script for this adventure, based on the true story of 47 warriors who sought vengeance from the tyrant who banished them from his kingdom. Ken Watanabe had also been mentioned for a part in 47 Ronin, although Universal Pictures said his involvement was only a rumor....

In true Wes Craven fashion, the Scream franchise has always been extremely transparent in its exposition of self-awareness and meta messaging. AMC announced today that the network will premiere a special event mini-series Making of the Mob: New York, chronicling the historical roots of the original Five Families that led to the formation of the modern American Mafia. The docu-drama is being produced by Emmy Award-winning Stephen David Entertainment (“The World Wars,” “The Men Who Built America”) and will consist of eight, one-hour episodes premiering in second quarter 2015. Utilizing an immersive blend of dramatic scenes, archival footage and groundbreaking VFX, Making of the Mob: New York will begin in 1905 and span over 50 years to trace the rise of Charles “Lucky” Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel and other notorious gangsters from their beginnings as a neighborhood gang of teenagers to murderous entrepreneurs and bootleggers who organized the criminal underworld and turned it into an American institution....

AMC announced today a full series order for the pilot that was formerly known as The Killing, from writer and executive producer Veena Cabreros Sud (Cold Case). Sud has signed on to also serve as the showrunner for the series, which is currently untitled. Set in Seattle, the series is based on the wildly successful Danish television series Forbrydelsen and tells the story of the murder of a young girl and the subsequent police investigation....

Rick and Morty has its ties to Back to the Future and Christopher Lloyd says that he would be interested in making a cameo on the cult favorite cartoon series. Rick and Morty originally started out as the adventures of Doc Smith and Mharti McDonalds, which was an obvious attempt to troll Universal, who owns Back to the Future. Series co-creator Justin Roiland set out to make a vulgar parody, which later morphed into the hit series that everybody knows and loves today....

Cameras are almost finished rolling on Batgirl, and it’s bittersweet for the movie’s star Leslie Grace. Featuring Grace as Barbara “Babs” Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City Commissioner James Gordon (J.K. Simmons), the movie is heading straight to streaming with plans for a premiere on HBO Max. The film introduces Grace’s Batgirl into the DCEU and will even feature her interacting with Michael Keaton’s version of Batman. On Sunday, Grace took to Instagram to announce that she’s begun her final week of shooting on the film....

Catherine Hardwicke is an American director, production designer, and screenwriter.
