Producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have boarded the languishing fantasy adaptation Dragonology for Universal Pictures. The studio acquired the rights to Dugald A. Steer’s childrens book series back in June 2008. Leonard Hartman was originally set to write the adapted screenplay and executive produce. Now he will only serve as executive producer, with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman spearheading the effort to find a new writer. The faux non-fiction books are based on the notion that dragons actually exist, which was revealed by Victorian era dragonologist Ernest Drake....

The Walking Dead premiered in 2010 during the height of zombie fever. After a string of zombie cinematic releases, including Dawn of the Dead (2004), Twenty-Eight Weeks Later (2007), I am Legend (2007) (which is getting a sequel), and Day of the Dead (2008), Frank Darabont took advantage of a ripe and ready market. With Darabont as creative director and an impressive cast comprised of Jon Bernthal (Shane), Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Steven Yeun (Glen), and Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori), The Walking Dead became a massive hit....

The Michael Jackson biopic is moving forward with Emancipation and Training Day helmer Antoine Fuqua in the director’s chair. Deadline reports that the film, aptly titled Michael, is charging ahead with production now that a director is on board. Michael is written by John Logan and produced by Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King for GK Films alongside the co-executors of the Michael Jackson Estate, John Branca and John McClain. Casting has not yet happened so there’s no word yet on who might be playing the King of Pop....

Whether it is through the numerous movie adaptations, the children’s animated series Around the World with Willy Fog, or the original Jules Verne 1873 novel Around the World In 80 Days, there are few people who haven’t come into contact with the story a man who wagers that he can circumnavigate the globe in 80 days or less. Now a trailer has been released for the newest adaptation, which sees former Doctor Who and Broadchurch actor David Tennant stepping into the restless feet of Fogg, who will take on the 80 days challenge in a humorous take on the original story, and also make a few changes to it along the way....

Avatar: The Way of Water is set to arrive later this year, 13 years after the release of Avatar, and looks to repeat the massive box office success of the 2009 sci-fi blockbuster. James Cameron has promised never-before-seen visuals and an improved 3-D experience for Avatar: The Way of Water, considering those were mainly the factors that led to Avatar becoming the highest-grossing film ever. Even though Avatar didn’t break any new ground in terms of storytelling, the film did have a memorable antagonist, Miles Quaritch, played by Stephen Lang....

The three-hour spectacle of graphic nudity, naturally replete with circus animals, and comically perverse violence will have eyeballs bulging. Director/writer Damien Chazelle throws restraint off a cliff to illustrate an era of unfettered debauchery. Somewhere mixed in the messy fray lies a poetic tribute to the magic of cinema....

Actor Barry Keoghan is ready to return as the Joker in the upcoming DC sequel The Batman 2. If and when director Matt Reeves calls him, that is. Speaking with GQ, Keoghan revealed that he has yet to be asked to bring back his iteration of the Clown Prince of Crime. But he is hopeful that it will happen, with the actor excited to do further battle with Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight....

The CW’s Batwoman series is going to feature the origin story of fan-favorite Batman villain Hush. The news was revealed earlier today during the Comic-Con panel for the highly anticipated show. Star Ruby Rose was supposed to be in attendance, but she had to pull out at the last minute due to a conflict in her shooting schedule. Apparently they are working on a pretty ambitious scene and they want to make sure they nail it for when the show premieres in October....

Deconstructing genres seem like it might be better suited when the medium employed to do it isn’t constantly reminding you that that’s what it’s doing. This is the central problem that I had with Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. The story is simple, a documentary crew is given exclusive access to Leslie Vernon (Nathan Baesel) who is supposedly going to be “the next great psycho horror slasher.” Well, as is usually the case things go awry and the crew that is documenting Vernon, as well as some other people with names like “Virgin Girl,” “Stoned Guy” and “Slightly More Stoned Guy” become the objects of his reign of terror....

Harry Potter has become synonymous with movies about magic. Now that the Wizarding World franchise has expanded with the Fantastic Beasts series, it seems as though there aren’t any other memorable films revolving around magic. This, however, would be incorrect. The story of the Boy who Lived may be the standard for magical movies, but there have been a few other films that have done very well in the world of magic and sorcery....

The Good That a show like this can even be made. The Bad I am not sure that this show really does anything. Some of the make-up doesn’t work for me. Black. White. is a show that is going to bother some people, make others laugh and leave some with their jaws hanging on the floor. The setup is simple… sort of. The Wurgel and the Sparks families share a home for six weeks....

Journalist Hannah Allman’s experience covering the Iraq War has been optioned for a big screen biopic. According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer Bonnie Garvin has purchased the rights and will produce the film. The project will follow Allam as she heads out to save the life of her interpreter Ban Sarhan and her interpreter’s newborn son. Sarhan was on assignment with Allam in 2003, when Iraqi insurgents learned that Sarhan was working for the American media....
