They confronted the fierce elements, polar bear attacks, starvation, and crushing isolation. If only the film adaptation captured their harrowing experience with a more gripping touch. Against the Ice plods along with a matter-of-fact approach that feels, pun intended, cold, and stale....

According to Variety, Alias scribes Monica Breen and Alison Schapker are signing up for a two-year mission at Touchstone Television. The duo have inked a seven-figure overall deal with the studio that calls for them to join the writing staff of Touchstone-produced Lost. They’ll also develop, create and exec produce series programming for the studio. Lost and Alias both come from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Prods. In addition, Touchstone Television has signed Alias and Buffy the Vampire Slayer scribe-producer Drew Goddard to join the staff of Touchstone’s Lost as well....

During a conversation with Eddie Redmayne for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Hollywood superstar Ana de Armas spoke about her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s controversial Blonde. Based on the fictional novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde dives into the darker aspects of the American icon’s life, something audiences and critics have found jarring. Some critics argue that by highlighting years of abuse and exploitation endured by Monroe, the film further exploits the late actress....

Andrew Garfield, who’s currently on an acting break, has found his next project. Garfield is set to play British entrepreneur Richard Branson in a limited series Hot Air. David Leitch (Deadpool 2, John Wick, Atomic Blonde) will direct the series. Hot Air doesn’t have a release date yet, and per Deadline, several major networks and streamers are involved in a competitive bidding war for the rights. Universal International Studios is producing Hot Air with Jon Croker (No One Gets Out Live, Paddington 2) writing the six-episode miniseries....

Sir Anthony Hopkins had something to say on his 84th birthday in a new video posted to Twitter. The oldest-ever Best Actor Oscar winner expressed how lucky he felt just to be alive at this point in his life, stating he doesn’t quite know how he’s made it to this point. Hopkins also notes his frustrations in the constant bickering and finger-pointing he’s been seeing in recent years, and in his speech, the actor encourages everyone to finally put these differences aside so we can all enjoy our lives as best we can moving forward....

Armor Wars is happening. After months of rumors and speculations, Kevin Feige pulled the curtains off the mystery surrounding Armor Wars at D23 Expo this year. Ashton Kutcher wants to believe that his That 70s Show co-star and personal friend Danny Masterson is innocent in his ongoing rape trial. BBC One, The Ink Factory and AMC today announced a co-production partnership for the television adaptation of John le Carré’s novel The Night Manager. Multiple Emmy® nominee Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddlestonwill star in the mini-series, which is set to begin filming in spring 2015. Susanne Bier, who won an Academy Award for In a Better World, will direct. A contemporary interpretation of le Carré’s espionage drama - and the first television adaptation of a le Carré novel in more than 20 years - The Night Manager mini-series will bring together love, loss and revenge in a complex story of modern criminality....

Sir Ben Kingsley first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe nearly a decade ago when he appeared as the Mandarin/Trevor Slattery in Iron Man 3 opposite Robert Downey Jr. His character is still prominent within the connected universe, even if he only has one additional appearance thus far. Fox’s new series has a “true Hollywood story” as their new lead. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has tapped Ben Koldyke for the lead in their new series, Boldly Going Nowhere. This is Koldyke’s first major role, which he secured in an unusual fashion. Koldyke was set to head back to Chicago in December but was persuaded to give Hollywood one more shot by his acting coach. After he wrote, directed and starred in a digital short, Jedi Gym, it gained the attention of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creators Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton....

Surprise! Netflix has just announced that Big Mouth will be releasing a Valentine’s Day special, just in time to drum up some of that awkwardness that we all felt in our school years ahead of facing down the annual love-filled holiday as an adult. The special is titled My Furry Valentine and, to go along with the announcement, Netflix has already released a trailer for the special, which brings what we’ve come to expect from this series and drapes it all over V-Day in glorious, and terribly inappropriate, fashion....

Billy Eichner parted ways with TruTv after a couple of seasons and decided to focus on some other projects, abandoning his acclaimed series, in which, the host and various celebrity guests ask people on the streets of New York City questions about pop culture. Now, Eichner has partnered with Lyft and Funny or Die to resurrect Billy on the Street as a web series....

The reviews for Black Adam are now in. Audiences have been waiting more than a decade to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson suit up as DC antihero Black Adam. So, has patience paid off and was it all worth the wait? Well, you be the judge. We shall begin with the positives, and Ben Rolph of Discussing Film awarded Black Adam an impressive 4/5. The praise continues with our own Julian Roman, who, while finding issue with the script and “predictable plot,” did find a lot to enjoy in the shameless blockbuster spectacle....
