Looking back, there are a surprisingly large number of movies that are about being stranded at sea. There is good reason for this: when looking to make a truly hard-hitting movie, what could be more terrifying than the feelings of hopelessness and fear associated with being stranded, miles from land with chances of survival getting slimmer by the minute? Add in an extra threat of, say a human-eating shark, or even escalating friction with the other unfortunate souls you may be stranded with, and you have a recipe for pure terror....

As an actress, Angelina Jolie is known for a variety of performances from action films like Mr. and Mrs. Smith to fantasy films like Maleficent. Jolie’s movies from the 2000s include the iconic Lara Croft, though many of her best performances branch from the 90s into the 2010s. Like many actors lately, Jolie is a triple threat – one that can act, produce, and direct feature films. Marvel star Winston Duke has commented on the idea of recasting the role of T’Challa following the untimely death of actor Chadwick Boseman. Speaking with Jemele Hill, Duke explained why he does not think that now is the time to recast the role, feeling that Boseman is interwoven into this particular iteration of the comic book character. However, Duke did go on to add that just because they have not recast the role of this T’Challa, that does not mean a variant could not show up at some point down the line....

One month after the sudden passing of Bob Saget, the comedian’s cause of death was revealed. In January, Saget was found dead in his hotel room after performing stand-up comedy at a show the night before. The cause of death wasn’t immediately apparent, though police said Saget was found in bed with the lights off, and there were no signs of foul play. It was initially theorized that Saget had possibly died of a heart attack during his sleep....

Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, formerly from New Line, have signed on to produce their first project over at Warners, climbing on the adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s futuristic sci-fi epic Foundation, which they will produce through their Unique Features banner. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warners recently picked up Foundation, which had been in development at Fox. Vince Gerardis, who had been attached as a producer in the Fox incarnation, will remain on board as a producer for the Warners project with Shaye and Lynne....

There were toothy smiles on the Senate floor on July 27th, when Senators Ted Cruz and Steve Daines gave each other a hearty fist bump celebrating the GOP strategy to block a key VA health care and benefits program for Veterans. Meanwhile, 17 veterans die by suicide each day and roughly 40,000 are homeless. There is a disturbing disconnect here between the politicians and budgetary offices, and the actual military members who are suffering and dying daily....

Netflix has released some magical The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance images ahead of this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con panel. The prequel to Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 movie will be taking over Hall H this Friday at 3:30 PM and fans are hoping to get an extensive look at the new series. Netflix will debut the series at the end of August and expectations are extremely high after the streaming platform started pulling back the curtain and showcasing how awesome it looks over the past several weeks....

Avengers: Endgame star Mark Ruffalo has heaped praise on She-Hulk lead Tatiana Maslany while revealing that Bruce Banner will pass the torch to his fellow hulked-out cousin in the Disney+ series. She-Hulk will introduce audiences and the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who specializes in cases involving superhumans and can transform into a large, powerful, green-skinned version of herself, similar to original Avenger Bruce Banner/The Hulk, who happens to be her cousin....

Academy Award-winning producer Bruce Cohen and acclaimed television producer/director Don Mischer will produce the 83rd Academy Awards telecast, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak announced this evening. Mischer will also serve as the telecast’s director. This will be the first involvement with the Oscar telecast for both men, though the two worked together on the Academy’s inaugural Governors Awards event in November of 2010. “I’m absolutely ecstatic that Bruce and Don have accepted my invitation to produce and direct the 83rd Academy Awards telecast,” said Sherak....

For the first time in history, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform live on NBC News’ Today in famed Rockefeller Plaza, Friday, September 28, 2007. This marks Springsteen’s second live performance on Today. In July 2002, Springsteen and the E Street Band made their first appearance on a major television network morning show, performing in Asbury Park, NJ. In their live concert on the Plaza, Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform songs from their October 2 Columbia Records release ‘Magic’ as well as classic hits....

Are you sad that Lost is going to be ending its run in a couple of years? Do you wish it would go on forever and ever? Well, get over it. There’ll be another show around the bend soon. Apparently, the executive producers of the hit ABC series did a Q&A session with The Hollywood Reporter. The Good A film about kids that recalls earlier films from the 1970s and 1980s. The Bad I wish there would have been a commentary track featuring the young stars of this film. 12 and Holding tells the story of Jacob, Malee, and Leonard, three friends who are struggling to come to grips with the lost of Jacob’s twin brother Rudy (Conor Donovan plays both these roles). Jacob is obsessed with bringing revenge on the kids who killed his sibling, while Malee and Leonard deal with the loss in their own way....

Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the The Independent Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, announced nominations for the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards this morning. Anthony Mackie and Kate Beckinsale served as presenters. Nominees for Best Feature include 50/50, Beginners, Drive, Take Shelter and The Artist. Margin Call was selected to receive the annual Robert Altman Award, which is bestowed upon one film’s director, casting director and ensemble cast....

Smart People director Noam Murro will likely direct 300: Battle of Artemisia for Warner Bros. An official offer is said to go out to the director early next week. The studio was down to both Noam Murro and Jaume Collet-Serra to direct 300: Battle of Artemisia, which was previously known as Xerxes. Warner Bros. liked both directors, and decided to go with Noam Murro for 300: Battle of Artemisia, while offering the Akira directing gig to Jaume Collet-Serra, which we reported yesterday....

Warner Home Video is announcing that 300 has become the fastest and highest selling high definition DVD to hit the market thus far. Since July 31st, 2007, 300 has moved more than 250,000 copies of both the HD DVD and the Blu-ray disc. 300 provided another HD milestone for Warner Home Video which was the first studio to break the 100K sold mark with “The Departed”. Overall Warner Home Video has six of the top 10 selling high definition titles with 300, The Departed, Superman Returns, Batman Begins, and Happy Feet....
