Like people, a house can deceive you with its first impression. It has to have a guise in a film to turn characters into its residents and gain the audience’s trust. A house that plays a main villain can haunt, murder, or sometimes both. A home can be a terrifying badass and paralyze moviegoers with fear if the actors are gracious enough to play second to their non-speaking comrade. ABC has given the green light for recession-themed multicamera pilot Canned, after David Rosenthal signed up as executive producer/showrunner, according to The Hollywood Reporter. On the director front, veteran Pamela Fryman has joined the CBS comedy Accidentally on Purpose. Canned, from ABC Studios, originally was picked up as showrunner-contingent. On the comedy, about a group of friends who get fired on the same day, Rosenthal will be an exec producer alongside Peter Traugott and writer Kevin Etten....

In a story from Variety Adrian Askarieh picked up the rights to turn the video game Just Cause into a big screen movie. Askarieh hopes to put this film together for a budget of about $30 million. It isn’t currently attached to any studio. The game follows the deadly missions undertaken by a CIA black ops assassin code-named the Scorpion. He specializes in helping nations get rid of leaders. At the time he fends off pirates, mercenaries and other rogue agents....

After making her first live action appearance in The Mandalorian, the transition of originally animated Star Wars character Ahsoka Tano to her own series Star Wars: Ahsoka is continuing to pick up pace as the Disney+ limited series has now added Pacific Rim: Uprising star Ivanna Sakhno to its cast list opposite Rosario Dawson in the title role and Natasha Liu Bordizzo. The Mandalorian spin-off series is just one of the many new Star Wars projects coming to Disney+ in the near future and will see the Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels character coming into her own....

Aubrey Plaza is joining season 2 of HBO’s The White Lotus as a lead character. The Legion and Parks and Recreation is the second major casting in the follow-up to creator Mike White’s incredibly successful limited series. Plaza will be joining Michael Imperioli, who will also be playing a series regular. The first season followed a group of wealthy tourists who visited The White Lotus, an exclusive Hawaiian resort. While initially planned to be a limited series, The White Lotus became one of HBO’s most popular shows this past summer....

IMAX Corporation and Twentieth Century Fox today announced that James Cameron’s Oscar and Golden Globe-winning Avatar has surpassed the $100 million milestone in gross box office at IMAX theaters internationally, marking a historical first for the international IMAX theater network. The IMAX version of the film reached the milestone on 85 IMAX screens during the 17th week of its first-run international release, bringing the international IMAX per screen average to approximately $1....
