Up until recently, the LGBTQ+ community had to settle for the occasional supporting character in a television series to feel represented. Of course, with Hollywood slowly becoming more progressive, having queer characters at the heart of a series isn’t as rare now as you’d think. Parts of the industry have cautiously stepped away from having just one token gay character and are starting to explore the different ways in which queer life can be represented....

Unlike many careers like sports and public service, where age greatly determines your progress in that specific field, film production defies the age limit. You can act for as long as you like if you have the juice and talent to attract interest from top-notch producers. However, the lack of an age limit does not make it easy for older stars because they face unending competition from the ever-rising talent....

Making a TV series requires a lot of time, hard work, and money. It can take months to go from greenlighting an idea to premiering its first episode, going through pre-production, casting, filming, and post-production. However, this collective effort can be thwarted for many reasons, with hundreds of series being canceled after a couple of seasons, if not just a single episode (per Buzzfeed). In most cases, cancellation happens due to poor reception from the audience, or because the series is involved in some kind of controversy that makes it no longer lucrative to continue....

Netflix has announced that they are developing a second He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series. The streaming platform and Mattel Television made the announcement this afternoon, also showing off a new poster for this latest take on the franchise. This new He-Man series will be separate from the anime version that Kevin Smith is currently cooking up for the streaming giant, titled Master of the Universe: Revelation. The new show has been described as a fresh take on the 1980s classic cartoon series, which sold millions of action figures all over the world....

Aaron Eckhart has only recently wrapped up filming the role of Harvey Dent/Two-Face for The Dark Knight but he has already set his sights on playing the hero in an upcoming superhero film. Speaking to iF Magazine Eckhart addressed rumors of him playing Captain America in The First Avenger: Captain America, or possibly taking the lead in Green Lantern. Although he joked about being too old to play any superheroes, Eckhart did say that he would be happy to play a superhero if the opportunity presented itself....

Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Watchmen has gotten praise from Dave Gibbons, the artistic half of the creative team which created the award-winning mini-series for DC Comics. But according to Wizard Entertainment, Alan Moore, who wrote the series, wants nothing to do with the film. Moore said: No. I spoke to Dave the other day. I got a piece of paper-they must’ve learned something from the V For Vendetta debacle. I got a piece of paper a couple of months ago saying, “I, the undersigned, hereby give you permission to take my name off of the film and to send my money to Dave Gibbons....

Tom Pelphrey oozes slime as a narcissistic con man who became a cold-blooded killer. American Murderer is based on the true story of Jason Derek Brown, a notorious fugitive who spent years on the FBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted list. Brown lied, cheated, and stole to fund his extravagant lifestyle. He portrayed himself as a wealthy businessman but was nothing more than a thief and scam artist. Brown could cry on demand and used sympathy as a primary tool....

Universal Pictures has locked up deals with original American Pie stars Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, and Eugene Levy to star in the fourth theatrical installment in the franchise, American Reunion. The studio is also in negotiations with original cast members such as Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Jennifer Coolidge to return for the sequel. We reported last April that Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg will write and direct American Reunion....

If you’ve been enjoying Animaniacs on Hulu, there’s plenty more where that came from. Ahead of the premiere of season 2, the streamer has just ordered another 10-episode season. As with the first two seasons, season 3 will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg alongside Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register and Amblin Television co-presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. The news was revealed by Hulu before the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour....

Earlier this year it was announced that AMC had acquired the rights to Anne Rice’s catalogue of works including The Vampire Chronicles and the trilogy Lives of the Mayfair Witches, and it now appears that both properties have been given series orders with AMC. Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches will be the second series produced in the new contract AMC has for the universe they are creating on the back of the authors numerous gothic horror novels, and will follow the Interview with the Vampire series late in 2022....

One of Apple’s first scripted shows has hit its first major snag, with the upcoming show Amazing Stories losing its showrunner Bryan Fuller. The split was said to be amicable, due to creative differences, since Bryan Fuller wanted to make the anthology series much darker, in the same vein as Netflix’s Black Mirror, although that was much different than Apple’s take on the series. An updated version of the original report also reveals that executive producer Hart Hanson has backed out of the show, as Apple and Universal Television begin the search for a new showrunner....

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide is joining forces with visionary filmmaker James Cameron and Fox Filmed Entertainment to bring the world of Avatar to life at Disney parks. Through an exclusive agreement announced today by Disney, Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox, Disney will partner with Cameron and producing partner Jon Landau to create themed lands that will give theme park guests the opportunity to explore the mysterious universe of Avatar first hand....

UPDATE: 1/26/10 1:15 PM PST Box Office Mojo has released the official Monday box office numbers which confirms Avatar as the all-time leader in worldwide box office, with an updated worldwide gross of $1.859 billion, easily passing Titanic’s $1.84 billion mark. Avatar’s updated domestic gross stands at $555 million while its international total is $1.309 billion. Expectations for James Cameron’s long awaited return to the director’s chair with Avatar are extremely high. And the running time seems to be a point of contention with the director’s fans. Some have speculated that the film will clock in at over three hours, but according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, the total running length of the film will only be 150 minutes (two and a half hours) due to limits imposed by IMAX technology....

A&E announced today that the new original series Bates Motel will debut Monday, March 18 at 10 PM ET. The network has also release nine new photos, featuring Freddie Highmore, Max Thieriot, Nestor Carbonell, Olivia Cooke, and Nicola Peltz. Gotham is heading into its fourth season and it looks like we are finally going to get some real deal Batman action this year. Benson Lee has been set to adapt his award-winning breakdancing documentary Planet B-Boy into a full-length feature for Screen Gems and Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson of Contrafilm. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 2007 documentary focused on the international world of B-boying, commonly known in the U.S. as breakdancing. Although the urban dance waned in popularity stateside after peaking in the 1980s, it has evolved and thrived in countries including Japan, South Korea, France and Germany, where in underground form it became more aggressive and athletic....
