Since the format war ended when Toshiba threw in the towel on February 19, Blu-Ray sales were seeing only moderate increases, until just a few weeks ago. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the March 11 Blu-Ray releases of Best Picture winner No Country for Old Men was accountable for 9.8% of the movie’s total sales and the action flick Hitman claimed 12.8% of the sales in BD. When the format war was waging on, a Blu-Ray or HD DVD disc would usually account for 2-3% of a disc’s first-week video sales....

3-D will be the new wave of the future, so says a new industry report. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 3-D market could be worth up to $25 billion by the year 2012. Analysts from the firm Piper Jaffray claim that theaters will benefit first from this large growth. “We expect the theatrical entertainment window will be the first to benefit from this technology,” Piper Jaffray media and entertainment analyst James Marsh and online content analyst Michael Olsen said in their new 3-D White Paper....

Warner Bros. Pictures has launched the first in a series of Video Journals which catalog the making of writer/director, Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Frank Miller’s graphic novel, 300. After more than two decades since their show came to a close, the cast of 3rd Rock from the Sun has reunited. Originally premiering in 1996, the classic sitcom ran for six seasons before airing its series finale in 2001. An Alex Rider TV series is officially happening with Andreas Prochaska in the director’s chair. Prochaska most recently directed a Das Boot TV series for Sky and Hulu, which has yet to air, and has now moved on to his next major small screen project. The new live-action adaptation of Alex Rider is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and the British indie company Eleventh Hour Films. The Amber Heard versus Johnny Depp saga continues, as the actress will reportedly appeal against the recent verdict made in the multimillion-dollar defamation lawsuit. The jury reached a decision yesterday, ultimately finding that both Depp and Heard were defamed but awarded substantially more financial damages to Depp. Speaking with The New York Times after the trial came to a close, a spokesperson for Amber Heard said that “the actress plans to appeal the decision....
