BBC America has picked up Season 2 of new fantasy co-production, Atlantis, from the creators of Merlin and Misfits. On November 23, Atlantis delivered the highest rated series premiere ever for Supernatural Saturday with 838,000 total viewers. The 13-part series premieres Saturdays at 9:00pm ET on BBC America. In the UK, Atlantis is the biggest new Saturday night drama series to launch across all BBC channels since 2006, even up on the launch of hit show Merlin....

Beast Wars: Transformers was a computer-animated cartoon show that ran from 1996 to 1999. Set on a prehistoric Earth, the show detailed the struggle between the Maximals, the future descendants of the Autobots, and the Predacons, the future descendants of the Decepticons. Both factions are expected to appear in 2023’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Though some Transformers fans initially disliked the show, it has since gone on to be one of the more beloved Transformers series, with praise being given to the story and the characters....

Béla Tarr is the legendary Hungarian auteur whose filmography counts nine ‘slow’ features. In 2011, he bid a farewell to his filmmaking career at the age of 55 with the black-and-white philosophical drama The Turin Horse, a milestone for movie lovers. The new Netflix film Black Crab hails from accomplished Swedish director Adam Berg, looks as if it will strike us with its cinematic awe and scale. It is traumatically familiar for various upsetting but hopefully cathartic reasons. Examine all the current, horrific events in the world and increasing dangers, such as war, disease, climate change, and social upheaval, and know that this movie appears to have it all. Perhaps that will be a good thing for audiences....

It’s official: Brendan Fraser is an Oscar nominee. There had been a lot of speculation that Fraser would finally be nominated at the Academy Awards for his acclaimed performance in the Darren Aronofsky film The Whale, especially after garnering so much attention at other awards shows. The nomineeds for the Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday, and as many were hoping, Fraser is among those nominated for Best Actor. The other nominees for the category include Austin Butler for Elvis; Colin Farrell for The Banshees of Inisherin; Paul Mescal for Aftersun; and Bill Nighy for Living....

You’ll never look at frogs the same way again I am a huge fan of “Broken Lizard”. Everyone loves Super Troopers, but their third feature, “Club Dread”, sank like the Titanic at the box office. I thought it was pretty funny, but will readily admit it’s not their best work. That distinction belongs to Beerfest. The film is a riot, absolutely hilarious. So funny and clever, it makes “Talladega Nights” look like a tearjerker....

Just days after Fuller House creator/showrunner Jeff Franklin was fired by Netflix for inappropriate behavior, one of the stars is speaking out. A really good movie is coming to Standard DVD and Blu-ray Disc. In a story from DVD Town, Lionsgate Home Entertainment will be releasing 3:10 to Yuma in both those formats on January 8. Synopsis: In Arizona in the late 1800’s, infamous outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) and his vicious gang of thieves and murderers have plagued the Southern Railroad. When Wade is captured, Civil War veteran Dan Evans (Christian Bale), struggling to survive on his drought-plagued ranch, volunteers to deliver him alive to the 3:10 to Yuma, a train that will take the killer to trial....

Hollywood has conditioned its audiences to anticipate the fairy-tale finale, which more often than not involves the ‘hero’ defeating the ‘villain’, hence the phrase “Hollywood ending,” a term of sentimental simplicity for the achievement of a narrative goal. While this simple black and white portrayal of ‘good’ and ‘evil’ can make for great screenplays that appease audiences’ expectations, in reality, the concept of isn’t so black and white, and there are a lot of gray areas....

Ahead of the wide release of the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde on Netflix, its cast and crew continue to promise a stunning performance from lead star Ana de Armas. Written and directed by Andrew Dominik, Blonde is adapted from the original book by Joyce Carol Oates. Rated NC-17, the film will be coming to limited theaters on Sept. 16 before streaming on Netflix on Sept. 28. It recently screened at the Venice International Film Festival where it was met with a 14-minute standing ovation....
