It’s sad to see anyone go too soon, and moviegoers were shocked to hear of Jean-Marc Vallée’s recent passing. Recent reports say his cause of death was a heart attack while at his cabin in Quebec City. Oscar-winning actors quickly took to social media to sing praises for the renowned Canadian filmmaker, who had studied film at the L’Université de Montréal before producing a number of critically acclaimed short films. His debut feature Black List (1995) was nominated for nine Genie Awards and kicked off a decorated career in Hollywood....

The Cloverfield franchise is a sci-fi anthology films series, meaning that each film is connected within the same universe, but the plots are completely separate with different characters and storylines. The series consists of three films so far: Cloverfield, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and The Cloverfield Paradox. There is going to be an addition to the series, featuring J.J. Abrams as director once again, but the date has yet to be confirmed as it is still in the development process....

Blake Lively and Scarlett Johansson are both eyeing the role of the title character in Warner Bros.’ outer space thriller Gravity, starring Robert Downey Jr.. According to Heat Vision, Alfonso Cuarón is directing from a script that he co-wrote with his brother Jonas. During the past two weeks, Johansson and Lively tested for the lead role of a female astronaut lost in space. A decision is expected within the next week or two....

It seems that the parade of actors whose name has been dropped for taking on the role of Batman’s next great villain will never end. The latest is Brian Austin Green (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), who told MTV that he would love to take on the role of the Riddler in the sequel to The Dark Knight. “I would love to be the Riddler,” Green said. Sex Education producer Eleven has announced the young cast of the upcoming BBC and Netflix eight-part horror series Red Rose, according to Variety. Currently filming on location in Bolton, North West England, Red Rose follows a group of British students who download a menacing app that exposes them to an evil entity. The series is written by twin screenwriters Michael and Paul Clarkson, who collaborated on Netflix horror series The Haunting of Bly Manor as writers and co-producers....

CBS has given mid-season premiere dates to the new comedy Bad Teacher and returning drama Unforgettable. Additionally, Thursday night comedies The Crazy Ones and Two and a Half Men will switch time periods, beginning Feb. 27. Bad Teacher, a single-camera comedy based on the hit feature film, premieres Thursday, April 24 (9:30-10:00 PM, ET/PT), after The Crazy Ones completes its full 22-episode season order on Thursday, April 17. Mel Gibson takes the mantle from Bruce Willis as the king of low-budget action flicks. Agent Game is a guilty pleasures espionage thriller loaded with backstabbing and wild shootouts. The film clumsily tackles the CIA’s use of rendition and torture at black ops prisons. The mystery that drives the narrative is easily deduced by the second act. All signs should point to a dud. But drum roll please, I was surprisingly entertained throughout the breezy runtime....

Warner Bros. has issued a casting call for Akira, which is preparing for a Spring 2012 shoot in Vancouver. The casting call includes the first synopsis for Akira, which you can read below.
