Blu-Ray victorious? One firm believes it’s only a matter of time. According to a story from Home Media Magazine, the technology research and advisory firm Gartner believes that the format war between Blu-Ray and HD DVD will be over by the end of the year, with Blu-Ray emerging victorious. Gartner analyst Hiroyuki Shimizu wrote in the Gartner’s Semiconducter DQ Monday Report that Toshiba’s price cuts won’t overcome the majority of studio support that Blu-Ray has....

A gem of a film is finally going to be getting its proper treatment on DVD. In a story from MTV.com, Wes Anderson’s maiden film effort Bottle Rocket is going to be coming out through the Criterion Collection. According to Anderson, “We’ve just begun work with the Criterion Collection to do Bottle Rocket on a new DVD that’s going to have all kinds of stuff. There’s a lot of Bottle Rocket that was on the cutting room floor, so we have a lot to work with on that one....

Bros is the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men. It’s a smart LGBTQ+ rom-com for our time. And about time, for that matter. Here, Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street, American Crime Story), who penned the script with director Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Friends from College), create an ambitious story that speaks directly to LGBTQ+ audiences while also managing to be downright universal. Bros may be boy-meets-boy in its premise, but its heart often lies in things that lie beneath the surface and, perhaps, beyond sexuality and gender: connection, chemistry, self-esteem, and self-acceptance....

Over three decades later, Bruce Campbell wants to return to the world of Darkman. Directed and co-written by Sam Raimi, Darkman was released in theaters in 1990. The film stars Liam Neeson in the lead role as a scientist who transforms into the titular vigilante after surviving a brutal attack and undergoing an experimental treatment for his injuries. The movie spawned a pair of direct-to-video sequels in 1995 and 1996, though neither seems to be as held in as high regard by fans as the original film....

Shain Gandee, one of the stars of MTV’s hit reality series Buckwild, was found dead in his 1984 Ford Bronco earlier today, along with his uncle David Gandee, 48, and another unidentified victim in Sissonville, West Virginia. While the cause of death has not been confirmed, some are speculating that they may have died from carbon monoxide poisoning. The reality star was last heard from at around 3 AM, when he and his uncle had told friends they planned on going four-wheeling....

Caitlyn Jenner is no novice when it comes to celebrity, scandal, social media or backlash. Many people have been waiting for her inevitable entry into the fray with a headline-making take on the controversial Dave Chappelle stand-up special, The Closer. The reality star threw her Twitter hat into the ring, and predictably, things got heated. Her response to Chappelle’s message of, “I want everyone in this audience to know that even though the media frames it that it’s me versus that community, that is not what it is,” he said....

Paramount Pictures announced today that Chace Crawford will play the lead role of Ren McCormack in the film Footloose, which will be produced and directed by Kenny Ortega. Over the course of his 30-year career, Emmy Award-winning director and choreographer Ortega has worked with superstars Madonna, Michael Jackson, Kiss, Cher, and Diana Ross. He choreographed the classic Dirty Dancing and, most recently, directed all three High School Musical films. The hugely successful trilogy has broken numerous records including High School Musical 3: Senior Year’s record opening for a song-and-dance film grossing $42 million in its first weekend....

According to Blu-ray.com, 3D Blu-ray is a lot closer than we think. Deputy senior general manager of Sony Corporation’s home entertainment group Yoshinami Takashi announced that the specifications needed to achieve theatrical quality 3D in the home will be adopted before the end of 2009, with most movie studios close to an agreement on the final format for 3D Blu-ray. This means that 3D capable discs and players will be hitting the market in the fourth quarter of 2010....

9-1-1: Lone Star has lost its female lead, as Liv Tyler has left the Fox spinoff series ahead of its upcoming second season. In the first season of the 9-1-1 spinoff, Tyler starred as EMS captain Michelle Blake alongside Rob Lowe as New York firefighter Owen Strand. Similar to how 9-1-1 star Connie Britton departed the original series after its first season on Fox, it has now been confirmed Tyler has exited Lone Star after just one season, reportedly due to the health and safety concerns currently associated with worldwide travel....

Scientists recently discovered a planet with oceans of lava on its surface. The planet, named Gj 367b, is smaller than Earth. To be more specific, the planet is three quarters the size of our own home world. This means that the scientific discovery is larger than Mercury, but slightly smaller than Mars. Gj 367b is approximately 30 light years away from Earth. Many have noticed that the planet is similar to a famous scene featuring iconic Star Wars villain Darth Vader....

During a sad memorial day weekend that has already claimed the life of sitcom star Gary Coleman, another acting legend has passed away. Sixties icon Dennis Hopper died earlier today due to complications from prostate cancer. The Hollywood iconoclast is perhaps best known for his role in Easy Rider, but his eclectic and wild career has spanned six decades, giving us some of the most memorable performances in the history of both television and cinema....

Shudder and Red Sea Media have teamed up to develop The Sacrifice Game. A 1970s horror movie, the film is the second feature from The Ranger director Jenn Wexler who co-wrote the screenplay with Sean Redlitz. Aladdin star Mena Massoud and Fear Street’s Olivia Scott Welch are also set to star in the lead roles. The Sacrifice Game is set at a girls’ boarding school during Christmas break in 1971, where Samantha and Clara, two students staying behind for the holidays, must survive the night against uninvited visitors....

A new trailer for director Michael Bay’s upcoming action thriller, Ambulance, was released during this weekend’s Super Bowl and teased the high stakes and explosions to come. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza González, Ambulance is due for release in April and follows a pair of bank robbers who steal an ambulance while running for their lives. The latest trailer comes courtesy of Universal Pictures. What begins as a beautiful morning in Los Angeles soon turns into a high stake, high-stress situation, as Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II dodge all manner of explosions, bullets and car crashes the likes of which that director Michael Bay can deliver with aplomb....

After the success of the most recent adaptation of Interview with the Vampire and the recent release of Mayfair Witches, AMC is getting ready to take many of Anne Rice’s stories to the screen in the form of multiple TV series, creating its own universe and a huge franchise. While speaking with Collider, producer Mark Johnson has declared that he’s working on several projects related to the Immortal Universe created by Rice, with Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches just being the tip of the iceberg on what’s to come:...

Ant-Man director Peyton Reed was so determined to turn Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania into an Avengers-level epic that he kicked down Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s door. Metaphorically, of course. Sick of hearing how the Ant-Man and the Wasp outings had become ‘palate cleansers’ following major Avengers movies (a phrase he really seems to loathe), Reed insisted that the threequel be just as significant as any of the Avengers’ adventures....

Film director, producer and actor Antoine Fuqua and LA Lakers CEO and controlling owner Jeanie Buss spoke to Variety about their 10-part docu-series Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers. The series launched today on Hulu and follows the triumphant rise of the basketball team after Jerry Buss’ 1979 acquisition. This follows HBO’s Winning Time: Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, a scripted series adaptation of Jeff Pearlman’s nonfiction bestseller Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s....

Music lovers are bound to be fans of the comedy-drama series Atlanta. Created by Donald Glover, the series first aired in 2016 and follows college dropout, but also music manager, Earnest “Earn” Marks, as well as rapper Paper Boi, as they find their way through the strange and competitive rap scene in Atlanta, with running themes surrounding racism, existentialism, and modern Black culture - even including inspiration from real world tales of white privilage....

It’s been 13 years since Avatar released in theaters, and fans eagerly anticipate the return of some of their favorite characters. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Joel David Moore are set to reprise their roles, with Sigourney Weaver returning in a new role. However, most fans didn’t expect another performance from Stephen Lang, who played Colonel Miles Quaritch in the initial movie. Luckily, the actor is confirmed and will come back for Avatar: The Way of Water, although in a “bluer” form, according to a statement made to Empire....
