Throughout the past century, Chinese cinema has been an underrated form of world cinema outside of the international film festival and cinephile communities. The first Chinese-language movie to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival was in 1993 when Chen Kaige’s epic movie Farewell My Concubine took home the award for its astounding performances, cinematography, and storylines. Farewell My Concubine was an adaptation of a 1985 novel of the same name by the Hong Kong author Lillian Lee....

A&E Network is in development on the new original scripted drama series The Returned, a co-production of A+E Studios and FremantleMedia North America. The announcement was made today by David McKillop, General Manager and Executive Vice President of A&E Network. The Returned is based on the popular French suspense series adapted by Fabrice Gobert and inspired by the feature film, Les Revenants, directed by Robin Campillo. The Returned focuses on a small town that is turned upside down when several local people, who have been long presumed dead suddenly reappear, having not aged and unaware of their own fatality....

Following the deadly on-set accident that took the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October, Alec Baldwin had led an effort by the filmmakers to have the film completed. Per Variety, Baldwin revealed these plans in an arbitration filing on Friday, which was filed with the goal of removing himself from legal liability. The arbitration was filed against lead producer Ryan Smith along with Rust Move Productions LLC, citing the indemnification clause of his producer contract that would force Smith and the production entity to assume all legal liability and cover Baldwin’s defense costs....

The Walking Dead fans have been without Samantha Morton’s portrayal of Alpha since her character was killed by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in season 10. However, her character returned in an episode of Tales of the Walking Dead, a spinoff to AMC’s hit program. The new series is an episodic anthology that follows characters from The Walking Dead universe, both new and old. Alpha is known as the leader of the whisperers, a savage group who did whatever it took to stay alive, even if that meant skinning walkers and wearing their faces to blend in with the hoards found across the zombie-infested area....

American Horror Story returns for Season 4 on October 8 with the all-new miniseries Freak Show. FX has released five new posters and a trailer to celebrate this impending debut, which promises to out creep the previous three seasons. Check out the deformities that will be on display along with a new trailer that teases the world’s tallest man and a very creepy little girl. What is their connection? We’ll have to wait until next month to find out....

Buffy the Vampire Slayer stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy, a teenager who is chosen to defeat vampires, demons, and other monsters. Over seven seasons, she and her friends Willow (Alyson Hannigan) and Xander (Nicholas Brendon), plus Watcher Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) take on everything from insect women to Dracula himself. The show’s foundation consists of monster-of-the-week episodes, similar to The X-Files. Sometime in the season’s first half, we get a glimpse of the “Big Bad,” who serves as that season’s main villain....

Dwayne Johnson is currently doing the press rounds for his upcoming action-adventure Fast Five. He recently hinted about taking on the role of Black Adam in the proposed Captain Marvel adventure. While it doesn’t seem that this project is moving forward, Dwayne Johnson remains optimistic that it might happen some day. Captain Marvel, who was later known as Shazam after a lawsuit by Marvel Comics, is the alter-ego of Billy Baston, a young radio reporter who is chosen by the wizard Shazam to fight off evil-doers....

CBS’ long-awaited drama Swingtown is swinging in for a summer run, the network is expected to announce Wednesday. “A summer launch is perfect for Swingtown since the pilot takes place on the Bicentennial Fourth of July,” executive producer Carol Barbee said. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Swingtown follows the lives of couples experimenting with sexual and social mores in a 1970s Chicago suburb. The serialized Swingtown originally was set to launch midseason so that it could air straight through....

The zombie movie is a genre unlike any other in the film. It can be a complete exploitation vehicle replete with buxom babes and crazy flesh eaters. It can be well put together stylistically and elevate both the genre and medium, or it can serve as a metaphor for the times we are living in. 2022 was an interesting time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They released multiple projects, all of their films opened at number one at the box office and held that spot for several weeks and people are still excited for the future.
