Variety reports that the musical scores for Black Swan, True Grit, The Fighter and The Kids Are All Right have been disqualified from consideration for the Best Original Score at The Academy Awards. The Black Swan and True Grit scores are ineligible because they are, “diluted by the use of tracked themes or other pre-existing music,” according to a source. The Fighter and The Kids Are All Right scores are, “diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs,” which goes against the Academy’s strict music rules....
The Rock had his best domestic opening weekend yet with the premiere of the comic book adaptation Black Adam. A passion project for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson that had been in the works for many years, the film opened up with $67 million in the United States and Canada. That surpasses Johnson’s Hobbs and Shaw which opened at $60.03 million, which was the previous career best for the wrestler-turned-actor. These numbers are also ahead of the initial projections for Black Adam which were closer to $60 million....
Fangoria reports that Kevin Tenney (Witchboards) has directed a new zombie film, Brain Dead. The screenwriter Dale Gelineau, a longtime friend of Tenney’s who gave them details on the project. Bridgerton has been one of the most talked about shows since its 2020 premiere.
