Portraying Marilyn Monroe was not without its challenges for Ana de Armas, who says she had to dig deep down to learn who the late Hollywood legend really was beyond her famous persona. Known behind the scenes as Norma Jeane, Monroe’s story inspired the Netflix movie Blonde from director Andrew Dominik. Though the film had initially generated controversy for casting a Cuban actress in the lead role, de Armas wound up garnering great acclaim for her performance as Marilyn Monroe, aka Norma Jeane Mortenson....

The hit movie Brokeback Mountain serves to give both Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal two of their most memorable roles, and one can’t help but wonder it would have turned out if the original casting choices had stayed on board. Reflecting on the near-casting in a new interview, Josh Hartnett says he was attached to star as one of the two leads at one point alongside Joaquin Phoenix. Every studio is looking for the next major franchise these days. With Disney’s utter domination with series like Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, everybody else is scrambling to recreate the same kind of success with their own franchises and properties. Whether it be the MonsterVerse of characters like Godzilla and King Kong, or Marvel’s chief comic-book competitor DC, there have been other series to find success with the “cinematic universe” model, but there has yet to be any to really achieve the same consistent success as the likes of Disney’s cornerstone franchises....

Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they will release Roman Polanski’s new film, Carnage, in North America. Polanski penned the script with Yasmina Reza, which is adapted from Reza’s 2009 Tony Award winning play God of Carnage. Carnage is produced by Saïd Ben Saïd (The Witnesses, The Girl on the Train) and stars Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly. SPC expects an end of year release....

Actress Catherine Keener is reuniting with screenwriter Charlie Kaufman for a new untitled comedy series at HBO. The project landed at HBO after a competitive situation with other suitors, and the network is currently fast-tracking its development. The story will center on one day in the life of a woman (Catherine Keener), and how the events leading up to that 24-hour period can effect her reality. If the show gets ordered to series, it will mark the actress’ first regular TV gig....

The hit sketch comedy series Chappelle’s Show is now streaming on Netflix and HBO Max ahead of Dave Chappelle’s return to Saturday Night Live this weekend. While Free Guy star Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy have played a little coy when it comes to talking about a sequel, 20th Century Studios’ president Steve Asbell has been spilling the beans on just where a sequel currently stands. Slasher is the horror fan’s horror subgenre. Touchstone Pictures has made us aware of a 6 1/2 minute extended sequence of the jaguar chase and mauling scene from the film Apocalypto which is now viewable on YouTube. The scene they have for you is one of the most pivotal in the movie. Jaguar Paw (Rudy Youngblood) has escaped his captors and is now being chased by a group of Mayan warriors. This is only the first section of what is an elongated and highly visceral chase sequence that takes place for the majority of the film....
