Blacklight is a tedious, deep state conspiracy actioner that misfires on all fronts. Liam Neeson, normally a sure bet for action junkies, looks lost in an obvious and melodramatic narrative. This time around he stars as an FBI black operations fixer who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The film also uses bizarre double-take edits that adds a confusing element to several chase scenes. I can’t fathom what stylistic approach the filmmakers were gunning for....
PREDICTED WEEKEND BOX OFFICE Last week saw the third installment of the phenomenally popular Twilight film series, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, dropped nearly 50% after only ten days at the box office. This allowed Universal’s new animated family film, Despicable Me to sweep in and take the top spot last week earning an impressive $60.1 million in its debut. But the animated film had its hands full this weekend defending its position from the new competition, which included director Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited film Inception and Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice starring Nicolas Cage....

All in all, it was a fairly quiet weekend at the box office, though Bullet Train will take the win by earning the No. 1 spot upon its second weekend in theaters. Directed by David Leitch, the film features A-lister Brad Pitt in the lead as part of a strong ensemble that also includes Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Sandra Bullock.
