AMC today announced key 2014 programming dates for new and returning scripted and unscripted series. Anthony Hopkins has written the screenplay, composed the music and plans to direct his new project Slipstream, which is loosely based on his own wild thoughts about God, life and death. Besides Hopkins, the cast includes Christian Slater and Gena Rowlands. Many performers will be playing dual or triple roles in the film, which is scheduled to begin filming on location in Los Angeles this June. The storyline follows an aging screenwriter Felix Bonhoeffer (Slater) who has lived his life in two states of existence: the world of reality and the world inside his head....

Apollo 18 opens in theaters nationwide today, a movie which The Weinstein Company has been touting as a “found footage” thriller, which consists of “actual footage” from a mysterious moon mission that never ‘officially’ took place, although many conspiracy theorists believe it did. Lightstream Pictures today announced the psychological thriller 2:22, which will be directed by Lightstream co-founder Paul Currie (One Perfect Day) and based on an original concept by highly sought-after screenwriter Todd Stein (Unbound) and Nathan Parker (Moon). The film will star Armie Hammer, who is coming off the award-winning acclaimed film The Social Network and just wrapped Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. Platinum Studios Inc. chairman Scott Mitchell Rosenberg and producer Mark Canton (300: Battle of Artemisia, Immortals) announced today that they are immediately putting the Platinum Studios comic book Atlantis Rising into development for a new, ongoing film franchise. Atlantis Rising is just one of the titles in Platinum Studios’ international library of thousands of comic book characters which it adapts, produces, and licenses for all forms of media. Created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, Atlantis Rising was first published as a five-issue mini-series that had been previously optioned to DreamWorks....

Valerie Wells, who appeared on CMT’s short-lived reality series Bayou Billionaires, passed away yesterday at the age of 47. The former reality TV star was the victim of an apparent murder-suicide, after being shot to death outside of a Shreveport, Louisiana McDonald’s restaurant. She was shot multiple times while sitting at the wheel of her car, before the killer reportedly turned the gun on himself. Louisiana news station KSLA reports that Valerie Wells was shot just after 4 PM on Monday, November 7 in the parking lot of the Shreveport McDonald’s in the 7000 block of Mansfield Road....

Bill Cosby has struck a deal to return to NBC with an untitled half-hour family comedy that he will star in. The deal comes nearly 30 years after his hit sitcom The Cosby Show debuted on NBC in 1984. Howard and Karen Baldwin are teaming with David E. Kelley to produce a feature based on the origins of the World Hockey Assn. and hockey great Gordie Howe, according to Variety. Howe will executive produce along with Mike Ilitch Jr., whose family owns the Detroit Red Wings. Kelley will also oversee the scripting process, though it’s not yet decided if he’ll write. The announcement coincided with Monday night’s Red Wings-Los Angeles Kings game at Staples Center and the 60th anniversary of Howe’s first NHL goal....
