Cary Elwes has come aboard the new Robert Zemeckis motion capture project “A Christmas Carol. According to Variety, Jim Carrey is planning to star in the feature as Scrooge and the ghosts that visit him as well. The film will be released in December of 2009. In other casting news, Tasha Smith has signed on to star in Fred Durst’s next directorial effort entitled Comeback. Ice Cube has already agreed to headline the film, which is currently being shot in Shreveport, Louisiana....

Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix are both horror masterpieces. Whereas the first one is a masterclass in jump scares and hidden figures, even reportedly causing some of its viewers to faint, its slow-burning spiritual sequel is a testament to Flanagan’s brilliant manipulation of grief as a means to terrorize his audience. Common in both, however, are the abundance of spirits present in every episode....

A Wounded Fawn is a new horror movie that recently premiered on Shudder. Directed by Travis Stevens, it concerns a local museum curator, Meredith Tanning (Sarah Lind), who’s dipping her toe back into the dating pool, only to end up the target of a charming serial killer (Josh Ruben). The two end up in a remote cabin where a psychedelic game of cat and mouse ensues. Discussing the film with Dread Central, Ruben said he tried to do a couple of different things when it came to playing a serial killer....

Production started this week on After Earth, director M. Night Shyamalan’s sci-fi tale which is set for release June 7, 2013. M. Night Shyamalan recently posted a brief video, showcasing a unique little creature found on set, along with photos of the lush Costa Rica landscape where they are filming. The Good It’s an Alfred Hitchcock Box Set that is filled with extras. What’s not to like!?!? The Bad No Rebecca? No North By Northwest? Okay, Rebecca I can understand, but North By Northwest is a film that is glaringly missing and it really should be in here. Alright, lets just begin by saying that I think Hitchcock is a master of the motion picture language. I start off my long winded DVD review of his box set with this declaration because I loved being given the opportunity to review it....

The filmmaker hoping to ignite the Alien franchise, Noah Hawley, has now provided some intriguing details regarding his upcoming television series. With the 20th Century Fox franchise now under the Disney umbrella, Hawley has revealed to Esquire that his Alien FX series will take the action to Earth for the first time, centering on advancements in artificial intelligence and the development of cyborgs. While fans of both Alien and Aliens (we know there are of course fans of Alien3 and Alien: Resurrection, but they are at the very least divisive) will be disappointed to learn of the large scale of the series as opposed to the claustrophobic terror, it certainly sounds like Noah Hawley has found a logical way back into the story that could also prove to be highly interesting in its own right....

Wakanda’s Queen is featured in comic book-style illustrations by artist Darius Moreno on the cover and images accompanying the feature story. In the in-depth interview, Bassett discusses the ups and downs of working in Hollywood and some of her most iconic roles, including her portrayal of Ramonda in Black Panther. Next month, the actress stars in Marvel’s anticipated sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever....

Angela Lansbury carried a powerful dignity with her whenever she graced the stage or screen, even from the very beginning. Lansbury’s very first film performance (1944’s Gaslight) earned her an Oscar nomination at the age of 19; as if to prove this was no fluke, the actress garnered another Oscar nomination (and won a Golden Globe) the very next year for The Portrait of Dorian Gray. The awards hardly stopped there for Lansbury, who was nominated for a Golden Globe 10 years in a row (out of 15 nominations) and a Primetime Emmy Award 12 years in a row (out of 18 nominations), and won five Tony Awards....

The official trailer has been released for The Apology, a new thriller from RLJE Films starring Emmy-winning Breaking Bad star Anna Gunn. Heading to theaters, Shudder, and AMC+ on Dec. 16, the film follows Gunn as an alcoholic forced to confront a dark truth on Christmas Eve two decades after her daughter’s disappearance. Focus Features has announced 2012 release dates for three of its upcoming movies, Being Flynn (March 2), Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (April 20), and Moonrise Kingdom (May 25). Being Flynn and Moonrise Kingdom are slated for limited release, while Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is opening wide. Being Flynn, based on Nick Flynn’s autobiography Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, will open against The Lorax, Project X, and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters on March 2....

EPIX recently released a trailer for their upcoming show titled Billy the Kid. The series is inspired by one of the most well known outlaws in American history. An article from Collider compares the upcoming project to the classic HBO series Deadwood. Both programs feature a sepia-toned color palette, along with a dark look at the Old West. The crew for Billy the Kid includes someone with previous experience in historical fiction....

With the people of Khandaq looking for a savior to help them with the terrorist organization, Intergang, Black Adam doesn’t see himself as a hero but still seeks to free his people from their oppressors. Avid readers of DC Comics may look at that brief synopsis with confusion, as that doesn’t sound like the Black Adam that we see on the pages of serials starring Shazam, Superman, and the Justice League....

Apple TV+ has released the official trailer for the upcoming limited thriller series Black Bird, starring Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser. Based on an incredible true story, Black Bird follows a high school football star turned convict, James Keene (Egerton), as he befriends a reported serial killer, Larry Hall (Hauser), to extract a confession and secure himself an early release. Black Bird also stars the late Ray Liotta, in one of his last acting roles, as a former police officer and father of Egerton’s character....

Blu-ray got a boost recently. In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, “Panasonic on Tuesday unveiled a next-generation Blu-ray Disc player with enhanced interactivity, including picture-in-picture and audio mixing.” Called the DMP-BD30 it “will ship Monday and should be in stores nationwide within a week, said Eisuke Tsuyuzaki, vp corporate development at Panasonic and GM of its Blu-ray Disc Group. The DMP-BD30 will sell for $499 and it “is the first Blu-ray player to be introduced with Final Standard Profile, with a variety of new and enhanced features....

Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy was a much greater success than the Tom Cruise-led reboot that both opened and derailed Universal’s planned Dark Universe. While some people were unsure why a multi-million-dollar blockbuster that also starred Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll flopped, Fraser has a very definite answer as to why he believes the 2017 movie failed – it lacked fun. 2017’s The Mummy was intended to be the first movie in a shared universe that would have contained many old Universal Monsters and other gothic characters from literature....

‘Same shift, different day!’ When Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns to Fox this fall, it will debut on an all-new night, debuting its Season 2 on Sunday, September 28 at 8:30/7:30c. To celebrate the shift, Fox has released a new poster and photo shoot video, which finds Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg ) leaping into action to save the day, while the rest of his crew watch on in horror, amazement and awe. Guess what pitches? Bumper is in Berlin and will be staying for another season! Peacock as well as the Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin star Adam Devine officially made the announcement earlier this month that the Pitch Perfect television spin-off has been renewed for a second season. The first season made its debut back in November, and according to NBCU, the series scored the biggest comedy premiere in Peacock history, as it was watched by more accounts in its launch weekend than any other Peacock original comedy to date....
